Nice place hotel more a 3 star than a 4

Just returned from a week at this hotel with my partner. Hotel is set on a main road (which can be quiet noisey) directly opposite the lake with stunning mountain views. The area surrounds are very clean & well maintained with pine tree's & lemon tree's & they have a very large terrace which is nice to sit out on & have a cold beer! The hotel itself is built up the mountain with various buildings & parts some parts of the hotel are quite shabby and could do with a refurbishment. Staff are friendly & give out excellent service. Maids are very noisey on a morning, banging balcony doors & clattering around..it is impossible to have a lie in as they are rushing to get in to clean your room. Rooms are basic, nothing special..complimentary fruit basket consists of 2 grubby looking apples & peaches. However, we had a fantastic view of the lake which made up for it! Hotel has a range of guests that stay there from families to couples to the older generation & is popular with repeat guests. Be aware that 90% of the guests are NOT english or Italian, and are very arrogant, rude & and pushy at meal times. You have to be at the pools very early to secure your sunbed as they get there first & drape there towels over it (however, the hotel rules state that this is forbidden!) and altho there is a lot of pools, the main pool is probably the best if you want to do any swimming as the water is not as cold as the top pool & offers a mountain view. The hotel has sunbeds sat down by the lake which is nice on a hot day and is just across the road. They have giant chess, table tennis & mini golf aswell to keep you entertained. Food was excellent at dinner time, varied & nice. However, breakfast & lunch was a disappointment unless you like meat & cheese & salty fries. Would not call this hotel a 4 star All Inclusive, more a 3 star Full board plus drinks as the afternoon snacks were abismle. All u got was flie infested biscuits (nothing was covered up) & no other option to buy any food unless u went into the resort centre which is a 20min walk away. The only things u could buy were cocktails from a drinks menu on a night. Evening entertainment is bad, the entertainers are average, nothing special. There is a kids ''disco'' on for half an hour every night and then whichever event they have organised in there stage made from pieces of garage. So u are stuck for things to do on a night except to sit out on the terrace with your drinks.Piano is played most nights & the world cup is shown on satellite t.v. Did not try out any beauty treatments but they are at good prices.Indoor pool is nice & has 2 jacuzzi's..could not find turkish bath or Sauna??!! and the Taverna is closed til high season. If u want to go into Limone centre which is very pretty but expensive, there is a path that goes along which takes about 20mins but be careful as cars & motorbikes come on her to & they drive like lunatics!! We hired a bike from reception which was free and took it onto the ferry over to Riva and cycled to Torbole..was nice to see other towns on the lake, only method of transport is the ferry really. Malcesine is worth a visit, they have a castle, the street cafes are more relaxes & there is a cable car up to Monte Baldo which is worth a visit for the views & cows with bells on!! Excursions can be booked through your rep at reasonable prices but only Venice & Verona are the closest. Rest are very long days & the lake tour isnt worth the money as the south of the lake isnt as pretty as the north and the north you can easily get around yourself by the ferry. I would reommend this hotel to guests looking to stay in Limone.

My mum and I stayed at the Leonardo Da Vinci hotel in Limone this May - the scenery is stunning - especially the Lake first thing in the morning - a sight not to be missed!

The hotel itself is nice with everything you need for a relaxed holiday. On arrival we were told our room had been upgraded and we had a beautiful view of the lake. The room itself was spacious and clean - lovely bathroom - everyhing you need.

Not all areas were open when we went (the taverna and outside bar closed as still out of season), but the pool areas are lovely, we had beauty treatments which were inexpensive and lovely.

The food was really nice and in great abundance - and Johnny who ran the restaurant was so helpful and great to chat to - as were all of the staff at the hotel. The bar staff were great - I recommend the banana daquiri's made by the beautiful bar manager Stefano!!

Limone itself is pretty, but I recommend a ferry ride to Malchesine to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the world go by. Verona is fantastic - and Venice good - my favourite trip was to a local medieval village called Canale - with a traditional italian lunch.

I already miss Lake Garda and the hotel really made our stay memorable - the kids entertainers (Nico and Nica) were great and even I will miss the Mini Disco at age 29!!

Would love to go again!!

We stay in Leonardo Da Vinci Hotel for our honeymoon in June 2005 had a fantastic time. On arrival wer were upgraded to a superior room which was excellent and right beside the pool. Never had any problems with getting a sunbed at any time of day. Good selection of food every meal and day. Entertainment was geared to the older age group ie 60 plus. The hotel provide a bus service during the day but not in the evening the walk is about 20mins to the centre but is a step uphill walk back not for the unfit.

All round good hotel but if you go early session beginning of June be prepared to socialise with the OAPs or make your own entertainment

We find this a very friendly hotel and the children love it. Not perhaps ideal for people without children, although the lake swimming is the highlight. Food great. Rooms good, maybe in need of refurb in places but overall good standard and kept clean every day. Shows great for the children and short pleasant walk in to limone - a fabulous town. We would definitely return.

Excellent value

We have just returned from a week at this hotel booked allocation on arrival through lastminute and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was large as was the bathroom and veranda (this may have been a superior room, although we did not ask for one). The furniture in the reception area is a little jaded and would benefit from being re-upholstered in a brighter colour. All staff were helpful. The food was very good with a varied choice, and there was always fish and an excellent range of salads and vegetables if you are a vegetarian. My husband used the steam room and said it was very good and I used the solarium each day. The hotel had a very relaxed feel about it (in fact I read a book whilst sitting in the reception area during the day and evening). We were not keen on the entertainment, it was a bit staid for us, but others, particularly the older generation seemed to enjoy it and we got pleasure out of watching them dance the night away. Overall the hotel is an excellent base to explore the lakes from. We only stayed for a week and did 4 excursions so it was really nice to return to such a big room with tea and coffee making facilities, large patio and air conditioning. We would certainly return if we stayed in Limone again

Lovely hotel with lovely staff

My three friends and I decided to book a relaxing, pampering holiday in Lake Garda, Italy this summer, and thats exactly what we got. We were abit worried at first as a group of young girls that we would be made unwelcome in this type of hotel at this location. However, when we arrived the reception staff were very welcoming and friendly. The manager Johnny was very humble and went out of his way to look after us. The bar staff and waiters were also very friendly, especially the bar manager Stefan. The food was excellent with a huge choice of dishes and salads.

There were plenty of activities to do, such as archery and mini golf, which me and my friends had fun attempting! The three pools were all lovely, although i recommend walking a little further up the hill to the swimming pool at the top because this was the nicest and was less busy. There were plenty of activities to do for children and there were also parrots near the swimming pool!

We paid a little extra for superior rooms, these had air conditioning, a balcony, tea and coffee making facillities and were of an excellent standard. The bathrooms were also very nice and clean ( which I am particularly fussy about!) and the towels were changed every day.

The hotel is in a nice location, just over the road from its private beach on the lake which was beautiful and although we went in peak season it was not overcrowded.

Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone, especially families and if i re-visited Lake Garda I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

stayed at leonardo da vinci hotel 1st week of school holiday. therewere 11of us all together children parents andgrand parents. room were good apart from air conditioning system .food was very good plenty of choice.staff very good especially restuarant manage,johnny nothing to much trouble. children all loved the pools and swimming in the lake would. recommend to any to stay there if you have children

Lovely Limone!

We have just returned home after a week's holiday in the L.da.Vinci hotel in Limone - it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Limone itself is a beautiful village with lovely scenery as mountains meet the lake.
We agree with the previous reviewer that the decor in both the rooms and the lounge area does need updating but otherwise there were no faults. The food was excellent, and considering the amount of guests staying in the hotel it was always perfectly cooked with choices to suit all tastes.
We found the room to be clean and spacious, the bathroom was surprisingly big for a hotel.
Our daughter was a little too old to participate in most of the activities (at 16) but they would have been great if she was younger.
The private beach is tranquil with lovely views, there is the option to spend a peaceful day sunbathing, or if you're feeling more energetic you could hire a boat or take windsurfing lessons.
We found all the staff to be very helpful and friendly, especially the young Austrian students who organised activities.

Fantastic Holiday

Have just returned from a weeks family holiday at the Leonardo Da Vinci Hotel and I can thoroughly recommend it. We had a four bedded superior room which included air-conditioning, fridge, kettle and tea making facilities and a very large bathroom. The room was still spacious even with four beds in it! The food was excellent and plentiful and the entertainment was ok in the evening, the children loved the children's disco. The staff were very helpful when approached and the children's club staff were great. There was a bit of a walk into town but it is a beautiful walk either through olive groves or along the beach on the lake shore and it means that the hotel is very peaceful at nightime being that little bit out of town. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel for buses down the coast. The hotel has its own private beach on the lake shore and canoes can be hired from there to take out on the lake. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel, particularly for families.

Limone is beautiful - the mountains are stunning and look different everytime you look at them, but beware if you love reliable sunshine on holiday this may not be your ideal holiday destination. Greenery in abundance can also mean rain in abundance and torrential rain on new holiday sandals and summer frocks is no joke!

Actually we were lucky in that the heavens opened at the end of the day so it wasn't too bad!! But I dread to think what people find to do if it rains during the day - not a happy thought.

The food is excellant at the Leonardo - incredible choice and quality - I must have put a stone on while there - only stayed 7 days!

However the hotel is ready for an overhaul - the decor is getting tired and the furniture in the lounge area is either an awful colour or filthy. The entertainment is best missed and heaven help you if the lift breaks down - it did while we were there and it took 4 days to mend it. Unlucky in that one of the days was a Sunday and another a bank holiday!

It's quite a walk into Limone and the mini bus stops at 6o'clock so if you want to escape the hotel's entertainment (and believe me you do) be prepared for a lengthy stroll/stagger out and back.

This is sounding like the hotel is awful - it isn't - the food and the views across the lake make up for everything.

I have arthritus and the hilly location was just too much for me but when fitter I would have been fine.

Top Local Tips for Limone Sul Garda

planes, trains, boats and busses we flew to verona had two nights exploring verona then got the train to the south of the lake and the ferry up the lke to Limone - a very pretty way to arrive - but remember to check on a map where the hotel is because we arrived in limone and then couldn't find the hotel or a taxi! a friendly hotelier took us in his car to the hotel. On our return journey we got a bus to the south o fhte lake and then the train back to verona which alos worked really well.

Sun + Mountains = chilly evenings! The only thing I could really find fault with in the destination choice, NOT the hotel, was that after about 5pm the sun disappears behind the mountains and leaves a bit of a chill in the air. If you're an avid sun seeker then you should definitely visit the south side of the lake and not the north. Having said that, the sun didn't reach them until late morning whereas I watched it come over the mountains at about 8am every day.

Malcesine Take a ferry over from Limone to Malcesine. It takes about 15/20 minutes, you get a lovely view and is not too expensive. Malcesine has a lovely castle and picturesque narrow cobbled streets. Great place to go for a morning or afternoon.
