What to do with Your Car in Gubbio When you arrive in Gubbio, at the main "Piazza 40 Martiri," there's a public parking area. You can park your car there, and then walk straight up the hill into the old part of town. There's even a public elevator to take you right to the main square in the old part of town.

funicular/medieval museum At the northernmost point of town, right along the rushing stream, is a funicular which wisks you to the top of the mountain on whose side Gubbio is built. Parking is on the premises. The means of conveyance is small metal enclosures in which no more than 2 persons can stand, not sit, for the 5 minute trip nearly straight up. I have acriphobia and was only minimally phased by the experience. The views from the top on a clear day, or at sunset, are magnificent and make the fear of the ride up fade. When you are finished, walk towards town until you get to the city gate ( less than 5 minutes). Go into the small shop on your left at the base of the gate's tower and ask the owner if you can visit the historical museum which is on several floors straight up in the tower. Their prized possessions are, among many old old and interesting artifacts, some chastity belts, which are always good for a giggle.
