Tips in General Take cash as buses, cable cars accept this only. Take a rain coat/umbrella for those "in case" moments as we got caught out but learnt from it (even if it meant on a sunny warm morning we packed the coats in the rucksack - they came in handy!) We got talking to acouple who went to Venuice by train - look at the timetables - they didn't realise their train only ran at certain times hence a wait for 2hrs for a train. hire a bike and cycle along by the Lake - on a sunny day it is beautiful. Don't always eat on the waterfront - there are some lovely places away from the madding crowd. Take an ordnance survye map of the surrounding area if walking in the hills/mountains - we found the walking map useless & had to follow a cable car path back to base!

distance to town Pick a Hotel withing walking distance as apart from couresy bus that stops at 7.30am there is no way into town except by a long walk or and expensive taxi.
