Enjoyed Hotel Silla
from LoveTravellingTLTThere is a lovely terrace that faces the Arno. In Summer they serve breakfast there. It was still too cold in April for food service on the terrace, but we sat out there a few times with our cheese, bread, fruit, and bottle of wine.
Breakfast consisted of pasties, fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, cold cereals, milk, cheeses, crackers, and toast. Getting refills on coffee and tea was a bit spotty. They weren’t very busy, but the one waitress was often not in the room. Breakfast definitely helped to fill up before a day of tourist activities. You will not find a place that serves breakfast, therefore recommend renting the room with breakfast. It is worth the extra 5 Euros.
The room was quite large for European standards. So was the bathroom.
This hotel was 145 Euros (credit card, no cash discounts) a night with breakfast in April. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Restaurants recommended:
• Trattoria Bordino: very good food; atmosphere was very cozy; small, cave like feeling due to it being built into a Roman wall
• Accadi: Very good chicken, pasta, wine
• La Ghiotta: inexpensive & very good
Restaurants not recommended:
• Trattoria Za Za: came highly recommended by several people we knew. Either we ordered the wrong items or it really wasn’t that good. Overpriced for the quantity of food that was served.
An Absolute Gem!
from little_miss_pinkDefinitely to be recommended.
from A TripAdvisor MemberBreakfast is served on the open terrace, except on chilly mornings, and overlooks the Piazza Demidof. The Arno can be glimpsed through the tall trees which grow in the Piazza.
We felt that the hotel was also very well positioned, about half a mile from the Ponte al Grazzie and the north bank of the Arno. The Piazza Michaelangelo, with its fantastic views over Florence, is not far away. A hard climb up several steps, but well worth it for the views. A highpoint of our holiday in more ways than one.
What a find

from A TripAdvisor MemberWe stayed at the Hotel Silla for one week in May. The hotel is in a great, safe location. Our room was HUGE (not the norm in Europe, as we discovered), well appointed, and comfortable. The hotel itself is walking distance to all the must-sees and some sights that are exceptional though not-so-famous.
Massimo (mentioned in many other reviews) lives up to his reputation as host extraorinairre-- the man goes above and beyond the expectations of his job and makes each guest at the hotel feel as if they were staying with a member of their (Italian!) family.
Hotel Silla was truly everything we hoped it would be, and after our experience, we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

from rsmrsm1Top Local Tips for Florence
August has too many tourists and is very hot!! I happened to be in Europe for a particular family event and was only able to visit Florence in August. Next time I would like to visit in maybe September or October when the large numbers of tourists have departed and the weather is slightly cooler. Many Florentines depart the city at this time understandably to take their annual holidays and I am sure also to escape the tourists and the heat.
Museums Sign up ahead on the internet and use guided tours. The long lines were just as travel guides warned, and the internet system works to keep you in much shorter lines.
Talk to everyone. Try and talk to the native Italians as much as possible. They are fantastic people with alot of love and care for everyone. Leaving Italy without getting to know somebody there would be the same as only experiencing half the the vacation that is available to you. I miss Italy already and I do plan to spend more time there in the future.
