Museum presentation is abysmal Museums, churches, galleries make no attempt to present works of art in ways to assist the visitor. If works have descriptive notes, they will generally be only in Italian and give little help with context, artistic development, allusions. Many were just missing - empty holders. So, to get the best of the works, it is necessary to study at home before visiting. However, they've been doing it this way for centuries and the people keep coming - so why bother?
