Top Local Tips for Florence

Ticket trouble You have to buy bus and train tickets in advance and you must validate them. There are machines onboard the buses, but at the train station look for the little yellow boxes on the end of the platforms. Watch out- if you don't validate your train ticket they can fine you up to 40 Euros.

El Barrino Tratoria and Luna Pizzeria The food at either of these restaurants are superb! El Barrino is a bit upscale and pricy, but worth it. The food is magnificent, the staff is very friendly. They also have a good wine list. Anything you order will not be a disappointment. Its Tuscan food at it's finest. We ate there several nights because the food was so outstanding. La Luna, on the other hand, is a local pizzeria but serves much much more. The pizza is to DIE for, and other dishes (quite an extensive menu) are just as good and well prepared as the more expensive places. It just doesn't have the chic atmosphere. But it's a great place to bring kids or to have an inexpensive meal in jeans and sneakers. You will not be disappointed. The owner will personally serve you. He and his wife are a joy. They are warm and friendly, and concerned that you are satisfied with their food. From appetizer to dessert, this place has my vote simply because it makes you feel at home.
