They had a wonderful breakfast and were very helpful in any questions I had. Accomodations were so nice and friendly that I even stayed in extra night.

Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco was referred to me by a friend who has stayed there several times. I was truly impressed with the hotel, its location, and spectacular room. I have traveled in Europe many times, and this is really one of my most memorable accommodations. The rooms are much larger than typical European hotel rooms, and were extremely well decorated and sparklingly clean. The location could not have been more perfect, walking distance to everything. I would stay there again, and have referred friends there already.

I have been staying at the Guelfo Bianco for many years and would highly recommend it to anyone. It is charming, clean, centrally located and the staff is always ready to help.
It truly is a jewel.

We loved it here! The service was excellent, the room was beautiful (as well as the bathroom!) and the location was great. The hotel has little hidden balconies all over that you can order room service and take you food out to, or just sit out there at the end of a long day of walking. Within easy walking distance of all attractions, but on a nice quiet street. Huge stained glass casement windows were wonderful, as well as 15 foot or so cielings. My mother had a back injury while we were staying here, and the hotel got a wonderful doctor to come see her within the hour. They were extremely helpful and I would definitely stay here again.

This isn't just a nice, comfortable place to spend your vacation in Florence: this is a way to fully immerse yourself into the Florence of the Reinassance... The hotel is wonderful, the staff has all traits of what you think Italian hospitality should be! Warm, welcoming, fun and full of helpful advice! I will go back!

Truly Charming, Great location!

My wife and I just returned from our trip. The Guelfo Bianco is a wonderful Hotel, within walking distance to everything and with a very helpful and friendly staff (our first night they recommended "The Perseus" restaurant, an amazing place!) We had a Superior Deluxe room on the third floor with windows that faced the street. The windows were double cased and the room was quiet. The building is 500 years old and at night we heard many unusual sounds inside the room. When I inquired at the front desk the next evening the night clerk got very scared actually accusing me of trying to scare her (I wasn't, just asking questions.) But everyone else was accommodating and the place is wonderful.

Centralize Place

It was a really cute place in a centralized location, down the block from the Duomo and the many shops and restaurants and a few blocks from the Accademia with Michaelangelo's David. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming which is exactly what you need after the adventure getting there. It is very difficult finding the street, let alone the place by car so make sure to get there before sunset.

What a wonderful place. The staff were so helpful. We had come from Rome and had no reservations. They were negotiable on the room rate, and very helpful... The rooms are sparkling clean and roomy. The breakfast had a lot of selection and the staff could not have been nicer. It is in a wonderful location, near the heart of everything, and moments away from ..."David". What could be better. I would stay here again in a second.

3 Star Prices With 4 Star Ambiance

We stayed at Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco for several days beginning 10/1/04. The other four hotels on this trip were 4 star and we were shocked to learn that this hotel only has 3 stars. We had by far the largest room of any of our hotels and it included a couch and a window overlooking a garden. The furnishings were very tasteful and the beautiful old hallways were a gallery of very interesting contemporary art. The location is awesome (one block from "David" at the Academy) and the front desk was very helpful. They are a bit less formal than other hotels at this level and perhaps some people are disconcerted by that. Despite what others have said, the breakfast was fine, although we had to pay a bit extra for the excellent fruit salad.

We stayed here for 6 nights is March 2004. The room was large with decorated wood beam ceilings and an incredibly huge and modern bathroom.
The staff was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and directions.
This hotel is centrally located, very near the Duomo. It is on a busy street but we never heard any street noise.
As others have said here, the breakfast is ordinary and they charge you extra for fruit salad and ham, but there is enough variety to get you started for your day ahead.
I would highly recommend this hotel and I would definately stay here again.

Excellent location, rooms and staff..

My husband and I stayed here May 6, 2004 for two nights. The hotel is very centrally located and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful large room (#226) and I asked to see some of the other rooms. All the rooms are different and all uniquely decorated. Most of the rooms are quite large. It is a perfect hotel for people traveling with children because several of the rooms are so large that they can easily accomodate 2 adults and 2 children, or even 4 adults. There would even be room for a roll away. For European rooms, they are very large. Even the standard rooms are of OK size. As for the breakfast, it wasn't the best I have ever had, but it certainly was adequate. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Great hotel

Recently spent part of my honeymoon in Florence and stayed at this charming hotel. The staff is very helpful, although a bit scattered at times. Their restuarant, shopping suggestions proved extremely useful, although they are short on conversation! We stayed in a Superior Double and it was a beautiful, large room with separate sitting area and a fantastic fresco on the ceiling. Even though we were on the street side the double windows kept the street noise out. The location couldn't be better! I agree that the breakfast isn't anything to write home about. You're better off grabbing a espresso and a pannini at one of the local bars situated close by. All in all one of my favorite hotels in Europe and I look forward to returning there soon.

Top Local Tips for Florence

Forget the car Bringing a car into Florence is definitely not worth the effort of negotiating traffic and trying to find parking

David Buy tix to the Academia in advance and avoid the long L-O-N-G lines. We were there in the spring and the line was two blocks long. In the summer, the line must go all the way to France!

Pisa to Florence The train system is very good. The train from Pisa airport to Pisa Central takes a matter of minutes. You buy a ticket for the entire Pisa Airport to Florence trip, remembering to stamp your ticket each time (the stamping machines are yellow and located at the end and along each platform) The platform system is easy to follow in Pisa Central station. Check the departure boards located in the subway - they are headed by times and not locations. We arrived in Pisa at around 6.30pm and the train between Pisa Central and Florence was packed, so if you can arrive out of commuting time, it is preferable.
