Casci - Brilliant Location
from Tiggy_Bermuda
The Casci's location was unbelievable - 2 blocks from the Duomo and one block from the San Lorenzo market. The rooms were very small but who spends all their time in Florence in a hotel room? One of our rooms even had fold up toilet and bidet! Free internet access. We paid a little extra to have both our cars parked and then brought round when we were leaving Florence. Very convenient but they need a bigger sign as we passed it the first time round!
Very satisfied

Great location for sightseeing and shopping; clean room - adequate in size and quiet;vert friendly staff. Free e:mail access was a bonus.
Guide books were available for your use. The owners were very helpful.
We would definitely choose the Casci again!

great service

although i was disappointed in the looks of this hotel (you can find many charming places in florence, but this is not one of them), I could not have been more delighted with the sevice. this family knows how to treat their customers. we stayed in october 2003 and we wanted to go to a resturant recommended by a web site and had the address and phone number. after trying to call several times for us for a reservation and not getting an answer, one of the staff walked over there and checked it out for hours and menu. (the phone number was in error) now that is customer service in my book!
A Slightly Different Perspective

After reading the reviews here, I was hoping for a bit more from the hotel. The rate was reasonable and the location good, but there were several items which did not suit us well. First, we arrived and were not able to go to our requested room. We ended up in room #9 (warning to all). Apparently, this room is similar to room #7 in a previous review in that it had the fold away toilet that, shall we say, had difficulties in flushing properly. We were able to move into our double room (#20), which was spacious by European standards and had a normal toilet. It was a bit warmer then and we tried to use the air conditioning. After 10 or so minutes, it intermittently started to make an irregular vibration somewhat like a distant freight train that could not be stopped unless the unit was turned off for 30 minutes. Opening the window worked reasonably well until 04:00 when the smell of food began to drift into the room. The customer service was not consistent. The front desk staff was generally friendly, but the woman directing breakfast had the air of a prison matron or perhaps Ms. Ballbricker from the movie Porkys (You will eat at this table, not this one!).In conclusion, a mixed bag. Its good if youre on a tight budget, but anyone with more discriminating tastes should head elsewhere.
Affordable, convenient, clean!

The Casci is a family-owned hotel in the heart of Florence. Very close to all of the major tourist sites, the Casci features large, comfortable rooms, a full breakfast (usually supervised by Mrs.
Lombardi, the family matriarch, ensuring plenty!) and helpful staff/family members. Father Paulo and son Pier Paulo are helpful at the front desk, but often busy. The free internet access thru the computer in the small coffee and wine bar area was a godsend. They also loan guidebooks, and there is a free lending library of best sellers (mostly English) for your late night reading. This hotel is a keeper--reasonable rates, excellent location, and confortable lodgings.

Love the Casci!

Our second stay at the Hotel Casci was in late June, 2003. In addition to the hotel's outstanding location, the Lombardi family make you feel very comfortable and welcomed. The Casci is just a very short walk (about 2 blocks) to the Duomo. Nearly all of the main Florence sites are within just a few minutes' walking distance. The morning buffet breakfast is served in a large central room with fresco ceilings, and you eat with other hotel guests. Very easy to exchange travel tips and stories. The self-serve buffet contains every possible choice of breakfast food you could desire. Further, Paolo helped arrange for purchases to be sent back to my home address. He was indispensable and extremely kind natured. Everyone speaks English well. It was very nice to have free Internet access as well. During one stay, our room overlooked the red-tiled rooftops of nearby homes. A real treat to look out of our window. The rooms are well air-conditioned. The hotel has a self-service elevator convenient when traveling with heavy luggage.
Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Firenze, and will be back again and again.

Wonderful service

We stayed at Hotel Casci September 27-30, 2003. This was during the national electric outage in Italy. The staff were very professional in dealing with this difficult situation and made the most out of it. They had bottled water available for anyone who asked, and added the nice touch of candles on the breakfast tables the morning after the outage.
They recommended restaurants for each of our nights there. The meals and service at all of them were very good. They even made reservations for us at the Ufizzi and Accademia. The free Internet access was a great plus as well. This hotel focuses on providing quality customer service.

nice hotel

I stayed at this hotel September 28 - October 2, 2003. Paolo and the evening shift young man (I forgot his name) were friendly, though mostly busy and preoccupied. Free internet access, and breakfast. Very clean room and clean towels. The hotel is very close to most attractions, and there's a bank and ATM machine just accross the street. Not a bad hotel for 100 euro a night (single room).
Awesome Location, Great Price, Clean!

Excellent location - in walking distance from all the main attractions, shopping, restaurants, etc. The hotel itself is quaint - basic amenities & very good service. The rooms reminded me of dorm rooms...
they are clean, basic and actually rather sizable - great for the economical traveler (or family). I would not recommend this for a romatic getaway or anything, but would recommend this for people that want convenience the basic necessities.

Home away from home

Our stay with the Lombardi family was outstanding. Mrs. Lombardi almost adopted my three children, her son directed us to all the fine and affordable restaurant and gelato shops, and their 5 bed room in the back was spacious, air-conditioned and quiet. One block away from the Duomo, one block from David, and one story up from the bustle of the street, the location was ideal, and the morning continental breakfast was a perfect start to the day. It was a nice feeling to return "home" each evening. and free internet to boot! We wil be back someday.

Train trips Riding high speed trains to other cities got your there safely, quickly and gave you great views of the countryside.
Leather goods March is a good time to by a leather jacket. Spring is coming, so everything is on sale. The quality of leather in markets are okay, but not as good as in the shops. Don't buy with the asking price, you have some room to talk them down!
