Top Local Tips for Florence

Uffizi visit, Il Duomo, Bargello, Fiesole, Siena To visit the Uffizi gallery, go early in the morning; they accept reservations so you don't have to wait in line. When you go to Il Duomo, be sure to consider the cupola climb on a clear day...if you are fit. (Tall people will be okay.) Skip the Bargello museum unless you can't live without seeing Donatello's David. Take a city bus to Fiesole. Take a day trip to Siena from the main bus station (Sita Bus) or via train.

Art Galleries Get tickets in advance for Uffizi gallery and Academia. Otherwise there may be up to a 2 hour wait in line.

Attractions / Food Florence is small enough to be seen by foot. It's safe and fairly clean. You can use the wonderful train service to visit Assisi, Pisa, Lucca and Sienna on daytrips. The food is Italy is dreadful but that is just my opinion. It's overpriced and of poor quality. The reason is that they don't have to serve good food. If you don't like it leave because there are 5,000 tourists that want your seating. They cannot depend on repeat customers or they'd be out of business in three weeks, but the constant turnover of thousands and thousands fo tourists make for cheap quality and high prices.
