Top Local Tips for Florence

Driving in Florence is difficult if you don't know Italian Beware of driving in Italy - I found it very challenging and stressful. I would find another way to get around. Not so bad in Tuscany/wine country, you almost need a car there. But driving around Florence and Sienna was something else.

Where to go & what to do & see Check out the markets near Piazza Petti and shopping around the Duomo area. The markets were excellent to shop for pashminas (if u are into that sort of thing...) at great bargains. Also a large array of leather goods like handbags, jackets, shoes, books and plenty of souvenirs. It was quite cold with some light showers when we were there so remember to bring your windcheater (jacket) or cardigan and of course, umbrella. However, u can get lovely umbrellas with pictures of Florence at the markets for 5-10 euros. Worth taking the bus to Piazza Michaelangelo where u will have a fantastic, breathtaking view of Tuscany as it is up in the hills. Lots of nice quaint cafes for great cappucinos and yummy eats like calzones, arancinis etc.

museo degli uffizi Is a must in florence, with the area of ponte vechio and the places around.Try to reserve for the musem or to go there in the very early morning at 8. It saves time
