The hotel has a very central position. The rooms are comfortable and staff well trained. Hopefully the renovation of some parts (paint on the walls, pool) has raised the status above 4 stars.

Booked a room - maybe not !!

This hotel was recommended to me so I booked a 3 night break for March 06.
Before I left I had emailed the hotel twice to confirm that they had our booking and to also inform them that we would be arriving late (11.30pm).
My booking was confirmed and I was told "Don't worry about your late arrival we will hold the room for you"
You can imagine how annoyed I was when we turned up to be told there "were many room problems" and told that we would have to go and stay at another hotel in their chain.
This seemed to happen to another guest in a previous review for this hotel.
As it was the other hotel was fine but disappointing that we did not get the chance to stay in the hotel that we actually booked and paid for. This other hotel was also cheaper per night than the Rivoli and we were not offered any kind of compensation.

Well done Rivoli!

Very good choice - 10 out of 10! Service, standard of the room and breakfast were all excellent. We would definetely like to go back! The hotel is in the heart of the Florence but still quiet & close to the main train station. Very convenient, comfortable & easy to find.

Excellent property

Stayed in this hotel for a nice February break. We were a little concerned about the area being unsafe, but it all proved not worth worrying about. The Hotel is great - charming and clean, our room was not huge but really nice, and the staff was very helpful and extremely friendly. Would definitely go back there - in fact, wasn't brave enough to try the lovely Jacuzzi hot tub, maybe in a warmer climate...

We stayed in the Rivoli hotel for 1 night 27th January 06, and had a very enjoyable stay. The rooms were very spacious and well furnished. The Front Desk staff were very friendly and helpful, expecially Francesca. Breakfast was very plentiful. The only difficulity we had was finding the hotel, with the very difficult 1 way system around Santa Maria Novella church / Rail station. Finally found Via della Scala and then found out we did not have a permit to enter the city, it was sorted by the front desk staff, as they had to register the car with the local police station, by midnight, otherwise we would have to pay a fine. The car was then parked in a nearby garage for a fee of €20.00 and brought back to the hotel the following morning, takes about 15 minutes.

Will definately stay at the Rivoli sometime in the near future

Spent one night in late November. Booking late on internet, we got a reasonable rate and were expecting good value for money. Our experience confirmed our expectations.

The valet parking facility is actually very convenient, and the fee is not very different from what local garages would have charged you when access to the historic centre was allowed in the past. The hotel will also remove for you the "limited traffic zone" violation fine (68 euro I think) that gets automatically triggered whenever someone drives into the bounds of the historic centre without an appropriate permission.

The hotel, a monastery in the distant past, has a pleasant historic feel. Our "superior" room had a small waiting room, LCD TV and a large and extremely comfortable bed. The bathroom was long and narrow but well appointed. Nice breakfast room with on average decent quality food (although fruit juices are all but natural!)

The hotel is only steps from Santa Maria Novella church and railway station, and therefore minutes away from many of the most the stunning landmarks (Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio).

Would definitely come again and recommend it, given location, overall quality and value for money.

A Great Hotel!

We recently stayed at the Hotel Rivoli traveling in a group of nine. Upon arrival four of our suitcases did not make the trip with us. The front desk called the ailines every hour and they had them to us in less 48 hours upon arrival. We had 4 rooms total and all of them were very nice and clean. Each one was different in size and one had a balcony, one had a fireplace, one had an LCD television, and one had a couch. The bathrooms were nice and big.

The bartender from india was extremley nice. He reffered us to our best meal in Florence at Bucca Mario. He was very nice and very informing.

The hotel is a very easy walk to the train station, about a block. The hotel is right on the same street as the Piazza Santa Maria Novella which is a great place to just hang out at night. It is a very short walk from the Duomo. The Ponte Vecchio is also within walking distance about 15 minutes. The real David is also in walking distane. The hotels location is just superb. Tons of gelaterias and good restaurants all around the hotel.

This is just an amazing hotel and i recommend this to everyone who wants a nice clean hotel with moderatly big rooms great service and a great central location to everything.

Rental Car held prisoner, but not a bad place

Rental car hell!!! We rented a car to see Italy and trying to find Hotel Rivoli with the car is heck. But nice lady at the desk talked us in finally (Thank goodness for my cellphone).

Then found that to park car at a garage that is not owned by the hotel, was about $25.00 a day. Beware of driving a rental car there but if you do, get good directions and plan to budget in parking fees.

Did not even get offered welcome drink (which may have alleviated our stress at trying to find the hotel, but after thinking about it, it may have taken more than one).

Not far from train station.

Hotel room was clean, bathroom was a little small but not uncomfortably so (it is Europe so expected).

Breakfast was good and plentiful. Not a complaint but dont expect your bacon crispy.

Walking distance to shopping and many sights. Map was available at hotel desk but not detailed so look at purchasing one outside somewhere.

May stay here again if we come in on a train but using rental car, probably would look else where.

Overbooked

We had booked this hotel through Expedia for June 21-24, 2005. First time we had ever used an internet company to book hotel reservations. We had reconfirmed our reservation a week prior to our arrival. Once we arrived on the 21st we were told the hotel was overbooked and did not have a room for us. To say the least we were upset and angry. We had chosen this place because of the close walking distance to all the tourist attractions and the rail station. They put us at another hotel owned by the same company. However, it was so far from all the tourist attractions they we had to pay for a taxi all the time which gets expensive. We don't mind walking but the temperature was 95 and it was humid. There wasn't a breeze blowing so it didn't take long to get really hot. Rivoli said it's not far from the tourist attractions but when I tried to pin them down on the distance they wouldn't reply. I knew it would be far but at that point we didn't have a choice. They did pay for our taxi fare to the other hotel. They did offer for us to return to the hotel if their were any cancellations on the other nights but at that point we thought, no way. I would not stay here even on our return visits because I wouldn't be confident that we would have a room even if they said we did.

Really good hotel

Our stay was on March 2005 during 2 nights (my wife an me) after Rome and before Venice & Paris.
Good location: 2 blocks from Rail Station, and you can walk to all nice places of Florence (Cathedral, Ponte Veccio, Pitti Palace, etc etc)
The room was big (remember that it´s Europe!), absolutelly clean and nice!
We took a superior room (20 Euros more a day)
Bathroom REALLY GOOD, including a small whirlpool!
Breakfast NICE.
People absolutelly nice.
We couldn´t enjoy the pool (remember that temperature was around 8 degrees C)but it looks GOOD

I would go back if I´m in Florence for sure!

Stayed at Hotel Rivoli 2/17/05 - 2/20/05. Excellent location, 5 minute walk from the train station to the hotel. No more than a 15 minute walk to all of the major sites: Duomo, Accademia Museum, Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio Bridge etc. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was very good and a nice way to begin the day. We did not find the area to be seedy or unsafe. Many nice reasonably priced restaurants near the hotel. One restaurant is a must when in Florence: 'Acqua al 2' on Via della Vigna Vecchia, 40r. You'll need reservations but it's worth it. The filet in blueberry sauce is wonderful. There was only one negative about this hotel. The temperature for the rooms are controlled at the front desk. Our room was always very cold even after requesting the temperature to be increased.
In spite of this one inconvenience, my family had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Rivoli.

Top Local Tips for Florence

Pisa and Siena Florence is a great place to visit but try to find time to stop off in Pisa - the tower was impressive and the surroundings! Siena is a must and is best visited by Bus - which is cheap and well worth the effort.

Great Restaurant Go to Ciro and sons restaurant, Piazza della Madonna, behind the Medici Chapel in Florence. The food is great, out of this world, we have eaten twice on two different visits, it's a family run restaurant very friendly, great wines and try the lemon liquor as it is freshly made. It is not a cheap restaurant but not expensive but worth every penny.

Ufizzi Museum Make sure you pre-book your tickets . This is so important you could be waiting up to 4 hrs for entry.I booked on line day before leaving UK payed printed off a voucher then handed it into museum, entry time no more than 10min.
