Historical Traveller Reviews of Atlantic Palace Hotel

Great Hotel and Location

from Carollovestravel
We enjoyed four nights at the Atlantic Palace, the staff were very friendly, upon arrival we chatted to the reception staff telling them we were staying in Florence for our first wedding anniversay, once we were shown to our room which was a good size, bathroom could have been larger but very clean, we were delivered complimentary a bottle of Sparkling wine to celebrate our anniversary which we thought was a lovely touch. The Hotel is placed in a very good location, serves good breakfast, we had a wonderful time.

t Waste Your Money!!

from QueenEsther
I found the staff exceptionally rude and arrogant. They clearly thought of themselves as superior to their guests. I even heard someone working at the front desk make a condescending remark about a guest when he thought no one could hear. Later a woman came in to ask for directions and he was rude to her and nearly pushed her out the front door. Then when I waited in the lobby for a friend, another woman came in from off the street to see a vase on display in the lobby and was told to leave immediately because she was not a guest!! I have traveled to Florence often and have seen some snobs there, but this hotel exemplified the absolute worst!! I was embarrassed to be there.

We stayed in this hotel at the end of March. We took our infant with us. There was a baby bed in the room when we checked in. The service was excellent. They were happy to bring us extra towels, etc.. We even bought milk for the baby at the hotel bar, and kept it in the fridge in our room. The room was a nice size. The floor could've been cleaner, but it wasn't too bad. The bathroom looked a little outdated, but it was extremely clean (And I am a clean freak!). The room had an ambience with the antique furnishings. The breakfast were excellent. There was a lot of choice, and the coffees were great too! The location could not have been better. We managed to get the baby, the pram, and three suitcases from the train station to the hotel no problem. The staff were very friendly. And there is an EXCELLENT restaurant close by the hotel. It is called Ciro and Sons. We ate there everyday of our stay, if not for lunch then for dinner. It's a lovely place, not the sort that you normally take children, but the owners went out of there way to entertain our toddler. They even brought out a little Micky Mouse cup and bowl for her to use. I would reccomend the hotel and the restaurant to anyone.

Great location, decent hotel

from Bostongirl_MA
We booked a triple here for our Florence trip 3/2006. The hotel is in possibly the best location there is: literally 1+ blocks from the Santa Maria Novella train station (though it is in hotel row, with dozens of other hotels similarly located in the area), and a quick easy walk to the San Lorenzo marketplace and Duomo. The lobby is spacious, clean, and quite beautiful, but the room was a bit more disappointing. Our triple consisted of a king bed + a poorly placed twin bed right bedside the door/bathroom (it looks like they squeezed in the twin bed at the last minute type of thing). Also our toilet wouldn't stop flushing after a use, thus had to call the porter to come fix it. Breakfast downstairs in the morning was great, with hot options as well. Overall, this is a typical decent little European hotel, with all the basic amenities and services you would expect. Great hotel if you want a central location that has decent facilities, but don't go here expecting extreme luxury.

Wonderful hotel! Great value and helpful staff!

We just returned from a wondeful holiday in Firenze. The Atlantic Palace was a perfect location that combined modern comforts with history. We had a room with wonderful wood beamed ceilings and large windows. The rooms are nicely decorated and very clean. Anyone we encountered from housekeeping to the front desk staff members were all helpful and friendly. They even grciaously entertained our attempts to speak the beautiful Italian language...all without making us bashful to try. The front desk staff (we seemed to have had contact with all shifts during our stay) was very knowledgeable with just about anything we had questions about. This was a wonderful hotel for the price...a great value for all travelers (young people, couples, families). Thank you for your hospitality Atlantic Palace!!

Excellent value if packaged

Great location. Rooms and bathroom typically small for European hotel, but they were very clean.

Very nice place

A very nice hotel. Very pricey, but very clean, comfortable and nice. Great location near the railway station and close to the flea markets, which were a great find. Lots of fun shopping at the flea markets. From our window at night we could view the very beautiful Duomo. The breakfasts were very good. I would recommend this one if you don't mind paying 200+ Euro/per night.

Best of Three

from A TripAdvisor Member
The best of three hotels used in Italy in September '05. All three were rated "3" out of "5", but this was the only "3". It had room, tall ceilings, good breakfast, and helpful staff. Be careful of Internet pictures of Italian hotels and promotional materials. Go one rating higher than you would in the USA. We were disappointed in two of three hotels we just used.

one of the best of our trip

Very good location-close to train station and museums, etc. Staff was very helpful and breakfast was very good. We stayed in 5 diiferent hotels throughout europe and this room was the largest. Only regret was that we only had one night there.

Compare to 4* hotel in Rome or sheraton 5* in florence, where I just came back, Atlantic palace H is a lots better. Breakfast has more varieties and better quality. Reservation desk was very helpful, hospitality. Amenities in the toilet is better than 5* hotel. Excellent location!!!

Top Local Tips for Florence

Great place to eat! I would recommend booking a table at The Golden View Open Bar restaurant. They have a great website to check out the menu and to contact them, with an English version if your Italian is a bit rusty! We booked a table with a river view and it was great - candle-lit dinner overlooking the Ponte Vechio - what could be more romantic? The food was excellent, as was the service and the price was really reasonable for such a classy place. Highly recommended!!

dirty stinky city There was a stinch of sewer/sulphur, body odor and cigarette smoke that you could'nt get away from in the historic center of Florence. The area of Fisole was beautiful, clean, quiet and wonderful. I cried when we had to go back down into the city. It was just depressing. The best part of our visit in Florence was the open top tour bus(red) that we rode all day, one of the days we were there. I highly recommend it. It was rainy while we were there and a pair of white slacks were ruined from the dirty drainage water that collects in the streets and on the sidewalks.

Driving in Florence......CRAZY!!! Although my hotel had parking available.....take the bus or train from the airport and walk everywhere, but dont forget some comfortable walking shoes and your camera!!!!
