ATM Forget about American Express checks, just carry your ATM card and get euros whenever you need them. My stopover from the States was at Charles DeGaulle airport in Paris. I got about $200 euros there to tide me over for a few days. My taxi ride was 10 euros from the airport into the old part of Florence. You'll find ATM's outside of about every bank and at the OPER (like our Walmart).

Find out about the buses in your area, you can get a line map from ATAF info office at the SMN Station piazza.The small ecobus(four lines ABC &D) runs round the small streets where the regular buses are too big to go ,and cover the main tourist areas. They are great when walking gets too much! Tickets cost 1.20 euros or you can get a tourist pass for longer stays and are bought at Tabacci and some news stands and are valid for 70 minutes from the time they are stamped. You can switch buses in that 70 minutes so can travel some distance.DO stamp your ticket in the onboard machine the first bus you get onto but it's not necessary if you change buses to do it again.If you don't there is a hefty fine which means less money to spend on handbags.!!!
