Top Local Tips for Florence

Be careful when looking up There are so many beautiful sites to see. Looking all around is what you want to be doing. It is important to remember the streets are narrow and the sidewalks even narrower if there at all. Pay attention to the uneven walkways and roadways. The drivers here are very aggressive and expect you to get out of their way. Stay alert when walking around this beautiful city.

Personal guides Hire a guide for just you, or a group NO LARGER THAN 6. (We had 2.) You can cover more territory, and if they are licensed (not just a student earning $ for school), you get a lot for your fee. We had a guide for 4 hours in Florence. We walked across the city getting information and history all along the way, and then entered the Medici palace, where she again impressed us with her vast knowledge of history. We got more in 4 hrs, than a full day of trailing a half to a full block behind the waving flag of the leaders of other tour groups we saw with tourists trailing behind the pace of 30 other persons, looking around trying to make sense of the spiel they were getting in their headsets. Besides being able to ask questions whenever we had one, our guide, being licensed and "connected somehow". was able to skip the regular lines of people waiting to get in to the attraction, and enter as soon as we got there. You do not want to spend precious time waiting in line.
