museum reservations We hate to be pinned down, but museum reservations really are a must, unless you want to spend your vacation standing in line, and they are easy to make. Except for Pisa, which is pre paid, you just give your name, so if you miss your time, go early and the line is moving, etc., you have lost nothing. If, as we saw even in Feb. the lines are long, the extra charge for the reserved tickets that you pay when you pick up the reservations is worth every penny in time savings..

Exploring off the beaten track Dont' be afraid to wander off the beaten track. There are some hidden gems to be found in the back streets and the alleyways of Florence. From 'secret' courtyards and gardens to beautiful shops and cafes there are many treasures to explore.

Eating out Go to I Ghibellini Restaurant a short stroll away from the Piazza del Duomo. Great for people watching, sampling excellent quality food (and quantity), cheap wine and beer. Also use the take away pizza service to eat on the bigger square called Piazze dei Signori if you do not want to eat at the table and pay for service etc.
