Top Local Tips for Dorgali
Use this as a great base to see the Barbagia area This is a good location to use as a base to see the area. It's close enough to the coast to get to the beaches etc. and yet it's in the hills so the weather is cooler. It's also a good starting point for hikes in the area. We would highly recommend a day trip up to Tiscali - a combination jeep ride and hike up the mountain - hard work but incredible views and a fascinating historical site. There are a number of outfits that will take you up there - the hotel can help book a guide. DO NOT TRY IT without a guide!! A couple of guide-books suggest that you can do it on your own. Our strong opinion is that unless you have a VERY detailed map of the area and you're an experienced hill-walker - you can get into some nasty predicaments. It's not worth risking your neck for a few Euro.
Live like a Sardinian Dorgalli is a beautiful little place and the best way to enjoy/experience it is for you to live like a local - amble about as much as you can, use transport as though relaxed, it is always on time, see the Madonna church for amazing views, chat to locals in your best Italian as all are friendly and eat at De Mauretto Pizzaeria for the best pizza/foccacia in Sardinia!
Outdoors Dorgali is an excellent base for outdoor activities especially walking, rock climbing, cycling and mountain biking. It is also near the coast. Recommend hiring a vehicle or taking your own as public transport is limited.
