Do not opt for an automatic in Italy We collected our automatic car from the airport and were told automatics were hard to find in italy. From the start it did not work properly, rolling back, difficulty in putting into reverse. It then developed a fault that accoring to the manual meant it needed urgent repair (Day 3). The provider said we had to drive it back to the airport and collect a replacement which would not be automatic! We did and the replacement was much better. Next time I would pick up the car at a location near to wher I am staying in case there are problems.

car hire with all there is to see at GARDA and Verona, and the mountains, having own transport is very useful. There is public transport, but as thye weather is good, you don't want to spend your day queing for buses/trains
