Top Local Tips for Cortona

Cortona, Italy My husband and I visited Rome, Cortona, Florence, and the Cinque Terre in the Fall of '06. We stayed in Cortona (at Le Gelosie B&B - check out my review) for only three nights. I wish we had stayed longer. Though we loved all that we saw of italy, Cortona was our favorite stop. From there, we were able to rent a car and visit several other hilltowns and really get a taste of Tuscany, including Siena. What we liked best about Cortona was the authentic small-town feel. We mingled with the locals in the morning while we had our cappucinos in the mornings at the local cafe (included in Le Gelosie's rate), and in the evenings while we had a glass of vino in one of the cafes in the Piazza. We also hiked all the way to the top and came upon a 16th (?) century fortress built by one of the Medici's. Visit Tratoria Toscana for an amazing lunch! Wonderful memories.

Weekly Market If you happen to be in Cortona on a Saturday don't forget to visit the weekly market in the heart of the city centre, this starts early in the morning and ends around mid day. This is where tourists and locals go shopping for food, clothes, souveniers, fruit & veg.
