Top Local Tips for Capri

Getting from the Marina Grande to Capri Town (with luggage!) Arriving at the Marina Grande can be a daunting experience - lots of people all trying to get one way .. UP!!! The funicular railway and taxi queues can take up to an hour (and if you get a taxi it will only take you to the top and not to your hotel as Capri Town is pedestrianised!). We didn't try the buses as they were absolutely rammed with people. We found a luggage porter service just near the taxi queue which would take your bags to your hotel for 8€ per item, we then avoided the queues and walked up to Capri Town. It only took about 20mins at a good pace but it is tiring and steep. Before you go think carefully about your options and be prepared for chaos - something the guidebooks don't tell you!

Beware of upcharges and shortchanging Always review your restaurant bills and count your change. We encourntered several times that we got upcharges and wrong change back. This only happened in Capri which surprised me. When at a club, before sitting, see if there is a service charge. At the club called "Number 2" ,to our surpise, we received a 40 Euro each charge for sitting there. This charge was never communicated to us before we sat down.

Daytrippers You might find the Capricians to be unfriendly and rude, not sure why but don't take it personally.
