Historical Traveller Reviews of Metropolitan Hotel

Good for the traveller and the turist

from morghi76
I stayed at Metropolitan Hotel for one night. A very quick stay booked on internet at an unbelievable cheap rate. The room was smaller than I expected but clean and the TV had a busload of channel to watch. Definitely good for a business traveller.
The location (right in the very center of Bologna) makes it a perfect choice for tourists too. Breakfast is definitely not their best feature but my overall experience has been anyhow above average.

Great Hotel

from lovetotravel52
We stayed at the Metropolitan for 5 nights a few weeks ago. It was so easy to find....the Aerobus from the airport stops a half block away at the Arena Del Sole stop. Cost 5 euros. Since this was our first trip to Italy and it was almost 9 p.m. by the time we got there, this was so convenient.

The hotel was very clean. We ended up with a junior suite that was out in a roof top garden type area. There were 3 suites out there. The rooms were very modern. One complaint would be that our suite must have shared a wall with the neighboring building and we could hear people coming in an out and talking...but that is minor. The other was they would not let us take an iron into our room. The maid would have to iron our clothes...something about the police and fire ordinance wouldn't allow it. We managed without but wondered if that was actually standard procedure.

The air conditioning was fantastic...especially coming in from 100 degree sunshine. The breakfast room was pleasant with basic cereal, meats, fruit, bakery items. The girl that takes care of the breakfast room was very nice. One day we got up too late for breakfast and the next day she said she waited for us...we felt kind of bad about that.

It is a short 10 minute walk to the Piazza maggiore and about 10-15 to the train station. Very convenient.

All the staff was very accomodating...some could speak better english than others but were always helpful. We would stay here again.

The best place to stay in Bologna

from soisbelle
I still can't believe this hotel was only 60E a night. It's just so nice with a perfect location and feels much more expensive. It's an easy 10 minute walk from the train station and is just off the main street that runs through the town centre, so it's quiet but easy to walk to everything from. My room was just lovely. A huge bed, funky flat screen TV, lovely bathroom. They also give you a pack when you check in that has a map and some information on Bologna. I think it's the bargain of the century and hope it stays this way!

Great Hotel!

from fashion_teacher99
This hotel was great and had the best air conditioning in Italy! Our double room was spacious and very clean. The front desk was helpful and spoke great english. The location was very convenient near shopping and the tourist area. I highly recommend the art museum near the Piazza Independezia. There was also a great restaurant around the corner which was great. My husband and I enjoyed this hotel!

Metropolitan is great

from ed8
Stayed at the hotel/apt in 05/05. My buddies and I chose the 3-bedroom apt with refrigerator and washer/dryer. Free breakfast although we never got up before noon. The staff accommodated our request for late turn-down and directions to the nearby Ducati/Ferrari factory. Location is within walking distance to train station and town square. Wine/Tapas bar around the corner is great for late afternoon snacks. I recommend the restaurant San Domenico(30 minutes by train) which is considered one of the best in Italy. Bologna is a great city to stay and central for visits to nearby Venice and Milan.

Nice Hotel.Good Location.Good Price

Bargain in Bologna

from forensicsgirl
Our group stayed at the Metropolitan for two nights. Our double rooms were clean and spacious. The bathrooms were equipped with showers (no tub) and extra storage space. The bathrooms were quite roomy.

Our air conditioner worked fine. The room had a small, flat screen TV with cable, a dresser and storage closet. No carpeting. Be careful when stepping into the room. There was a small step that caught everyone by surprise.

Front desk was staffed 24 hours. Staff were friendly and spoke English.

Breakfast buffet was a typical European buffet (assorted meats, cheeses, breads, fruit, yogurt, juices, etc). Dining area was comfortable. Having breakfast in the courtyard was quite enjoyable.

Our flight left in the late evening. The hotel didn't have any problems with storing our luggage after check-out.

Hotel is located in the shopping district of the old town. On Saturday morning, there was a large flea market located a few blocks from the hotel. Being August, quite a few stores were closed but the major tourist destinations were open. Train station is a short distance away (15 min walk). Train rides to Parma and Ravenna were about an hour. Great ice cream parlor across the train station in Ravenna!

Well positioned

from GMorrisSwansea
If staying in Bologna, you must be within the old town. This is a small, friendly hotel in an excellent position just off the main street and a short walk to the main piazza. I stayed in a small single room which, like all single rooms, was at the back of the hotel with no view at all (not even an alleyway!). Comfortable and very clean with excellent shower/bathroom facilities. very good continental breakfast. Internet access point in room. Nearest bars and restaurants only a short walk away.
Inexpensive. Good bus links to congress centre etc. Overall, a decent place for a short stay business traveller without an open budget!. I can't comment on double rooms.

extremely comfortable

from manzana
We stayed in May and this was a true find our double room had recently been made over and was very comfortable. The breakfast was run by a charming Asian lady and had fresh fruit and six different teas available plus soothing music and lighted candles. This hotel was really trying its best and so central.

Metropolitan Single Rooms

from A TripAdvisor Member
The single rooms at the Hotel Metropolitan were extremely small and far too hot. I moved twice, once from the single room to a twin (also very small) which had the sewage pipe encased in the bathroom wall - this was a very unpleasant smell which the hotel manager would not go and see for himself and just put it down to a cleaning issue, and then to a double room which was more roomy and very comfortable. The Metropolitan is a very clean hotel, which is beautifully decorated with a very good location. I would recommend it but make sure you book a double room even if you need a single!

Top Local Tips for Bologna

Bologna, a wonderul historical city! there is much history in this city! and the cuisine is excellent! it was a very enjoyable vacation! a must see!

Trains and Buses Trains are user friendly and generally reliable. Helpful staff at railway station. Not such good experience travelling by bus.

Look Up! Walk away from the mainstreets, take a map and wander the side streets, find the little cafes where the students and residents meet, look for the river under the houses, enter the churches, find the park, and look up! The architectural details are phenomenal!
