Historical Traveller Reviews of Nuovo Hotel Metropole

Great spot - but tired

from A TripAdvisor Member
We chose The Metropole because of its position and it is the only hotel in Bellagio right on the lake. We were on the top (4th) floor and the views are stunning. We were not put off by the proximity of the ferry port - in fact it made life at any time of day quite interesting. The hotel itself is rather tired though - the dining room inside (for some reason you are not allowed to take breakfast on the open terrace) is in need of some serious redecoration and the breakfast arrangements can at times appear somewhat chaotic. The rooms are clean - bathroom is adequate but the shower entrance would be a problem for larger built folk ! Staff are friendly and the town is an absolute joy. Check out the Hotel Belvedere which looked much smarter.

Best position on Lake Como

from MaggieTucker
This friendly hotel has to have the best position on Lake Como. It also has an excellent restaurant run extremely efficently by Franco the maitre d'
It also has a wonderful rooftop terrace where you can sit and enjoy the lights of the opposite side of the lake shimmering in the evening light. The reception staff were also great and after my complaining about the hard, lumpy pillows, they were changed for much softer ones! Now that's service. Unfortunately my last few moments were marred by an accident when rushing to catch the mini-coach to take us back to the airport I tripped over my bag strap and fell smack onto my face, the reception staff rushed to pick me up providing me with ice and comfort. I was taken to the First Aid department in the bowels of Milan airport, by the fantasic Ingham's rep Vicky - who stayed with me, and I was given 6 stiches in my face by a handsome Italian doctor (the only compensation for a dreadful day!).

Lake view Balcony Room? What A View!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here for 5 nights on out honeymoon in May 2005.
We booked direct with the hotel and they were very good at keeping in contact. Origianly we had a side lake view room as only that was available. But when we arrived we asked if we could be moved to a front view for a extra 10 euro/night. Martina on the desk was only too happy to help and it was well worth the money. The views were fantastic, the hotel is right on the lake front, unlike the others we looked at that all have a road in front of them. The rooms were of very good standard and the breakfast was also very good. The roof terrace is big and equipped with loungers, and superb panoramic views.
Our fondest memory of the hotel though was the staff, both Martina and Jacko could not do enough to aid us both. When we arrived in the room, we had champagne and fruit delivered to us for our honeymoon which we had while watching the sunset over the lake from our balcony. They recomended restaurants for us, aided us with travel arrangments and some little known villas to visit which were spectacular (especially villa Balbianello, used is the starwars film)
They even got their friend to run us up into the mountains to a local restaurant, where our table looked down on the town and lake and the food was specatcular, they waited for us to have our meal and then dropped us back.

Thanks so much to you both, you really made our honeymoon special!

Terrace Room At The Metropole - What A View!!!

from JJBhoy
We stayed at the Metropole for two nights over the first weekend in April & paid 130 Euro per night for a first floor room (Room 110) with a private terrace.

The room was a good size & seemed freshly decorated as did the bathroom, but the crowning glory was the huge terrace right on the lakeside. There was a table, 2 chairs and 2 deckchairs & still plenty of room to spare. The Metropole is the only hotel in Bellagio which is situated directly on the shore and the view from our terrace was simply unbeatable.

The public areas of the hotel itself were perhaps a little faded but perfectly acceptable. Other hotels in town like the Du Lac, Florence & Belvedere are perhaps a little fancier but for the money I think a private terrace room at the Metropole is the best deal in town.

Beautiful Bellagio

from BEACONS69
We have just returned from a magical stay at the Hotel Metropole, Bellagio. We had a wonderful panoramic view of Lake Como from our balcony on the second floor. The room was pleasant but the bathroom was in need of updating. The restaurant was excellent, with superb food and a wonderful, warm and friendly service. The breakfast buffet was extensive and the four course meals in the evening offered great variety. Special thanks to the Reception Staff and particularly to Franco and Francesco in the restaurant for their kindness. We are delighted to have chosen the Metropole as our base and we look forward to returning in the future. Bellagio in our opinion was the best resort on the lake. We have very happy memories that we will treasure.

Bonkers about the Metropole in Bellagio

from bobbiefrombolton
absolutely breathtaking views of the lake make the Hotel Metropole the only choice if you are intent on staying in Bellagio itself - the hotel itself is a modest 3 star and will not win any awards like "best hotel in bellagio" however, it offers an unbeatable price/quality ratio and the staff are young and always eager to help. The food is particularly nice and in the evening you can dine by the lake! I suggest you book well in advance as we tried 3 different dates before they eventually managed to accomodate us. I will be sure to return to this hotel in the future. ps George Clooney has a villa on Lake Como and some of the other guests said that he popped in to the Metropole for an ice cream! I asked the manager if it was true and he neither denied or admitted it.

Great Deal

from worldtravelerworld
This hotel is a great deal. Our room was clean, and the bathroom was newly renovated. The lobby, the breakfast room, and the hallways are very grand, especially considering the price. The receptionist was spectacular.

The breakfast was so-so. And our lake view room was pretty loud, since people would sit outside right under our windows until the wee hours of the night. Next time I would save 10 euros and get the garden view.

Wonderful hotel in Bellagio

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a wonderful vacation in Italy, where we stayed at the Hotel Metropole in Bellagio for 3 nights. The staff was very nice and the rooms very clean and well appointed. The view from our second story room was superb with full view of the lake. The hotel also had a rooftop terrace that also enjoyed beautiful views. Don't be shy about asking for a larger room if at first you get a small one. The staff was very accommodating in moving us to a larger room at no additional charge.

Excellent location, warm welcome

from A TripAdvisor Member
I've stayed at the Metropole with my girlfriend in a nice spring weekend - and I must say that the view we enjoyed from our room was just breathtaking: lake, mountains, blue sky... The same view that made the breakfast on the lovely terrace just perfect. We also had dinner at the restaurant hotel, where we were served excellent food by an attentive and friendly staff. Another positive note was the renovation that the hotel underwent this year: the rooms were much more comfortable and nicer than the year before. The staff was super and made us feel at home. Definitely recommended.

Return to Bellagio

from A TripAdvisor Member
On 2001 I have chosen Italy for my honeymoon, 15 days in September; we enjoyed our stay in Rome and Florence because we love the Fine Arts and monument, but we have had our happiest days in Bellagio at Hotel Metropole.
We had a room on the 2° floor of this romantic pink Hotel with a balcony with spectacular view of the lake. The room was comfortable even if a little old fashioned and the bathroom perfectly clean. The dinner was served on a verandah and we enjoyed good food looking at the winking lights reflected on the lake.
I have been again recently (March 2005) at the Hotel Metropole with my sister and I've noticed that something has been renewed. Our room on the first floor was refurbished and the bathroom totally new.
But is not changed the warm acceptance , the useful staff and the quality of the food.
I hope to return again in Bellagio to celebrate my silver wedding.

Top Local Tips for Bellagio

Far Out Creme brulee in the Far Out restaurant on Salita Mella is a must!

Tours. Do a tour of the Hamlets on the eastern side of Bellagio. Takes approx 2.5hrs.

Gettting to Bellagio If you have lots of time it's possible to get there by public transport. If you have a group of people and don't want a lot of hassle it's worth getting a taxi from the airport. We booked ours through the hotel beforehand, and it was a about €50 cheaper than the prices quoted by taxis at the airport.
