The four of us ended up smelly room with no windows for a very high price. I noticed much nicer places for less money.

This was a terrific small hotel with breathtaking views from the common area deck. Our room was clean, fairly bright and large. There was a great view from our tiny enclosed balcony, but it was well worth standing on the bench to take in the spectacular sunset over the Umbrian countryside. Staff was kind and courteous. Great central location. I'd definitely recommend it.

Top Local Tips for Assisi

what the hell do I do with this car? You may drive your rental car into the city to drop off luggage only then you must park in one of the parking lots.If you gamble on free parking areas be sure you know what you are doing; towing is enforced.There are 5 or 6 public parking areas. Piazza Matteotti at the east end of town and San Pietro at the west are probably your best bets depending on your hotel location. Matteotti is the largest and less than a ten min. walk from the center of Assisi. Be sure you park in the underground section on Friday night. The top, street level,lot is a market on Saturdays;(remember, towing is enforced) 10 Euros/day but a discount card is available from most hotels.

PARKING Difficult to get around within the city so park at the train station and pack an overnight bag and walk to hotel

Rocca Maggiore -- GREAT, but only if you like to walk During a recent trip to Assisi I walked up to Rocca Maggiore, the fort on the top of the hill. It's easy to get to, but be aware that the streets are steep and that once you get there there are many stairs to climb to get the best views. Absolutely worth it -- the building is very much intact and one gets a good sense of what it might have been like to be a soldier there. Go all the way to the top of the spiral staircases for an amazing view, and also go down the long dimly-lit passageway from the spiral stairway to the other tower!
