Eremo di Carcere My brother said we should visit the Carcere (carch-sure-re). It was a retreat for Francis and his followers. I had never heard of it and wasn't all that excited, but since he said we should go, I went. Most people hike to the Carcere, it's several mikes and uphill all the way. It is a sort of religious pilgrimage. You pray and imagine Francis climbing this mountain before there were any roads. We took a taxi. It is higher up in the hills than the town. It's sort of a state park with lots of trees, flowers and walking paths. There is a building with a small little room underneath that Francis used for prayer. It's all very simple and beautiful. It was well worth the trip and I thanked my brother when we returned home.
