To and from Aosta and surrounding area The best mode of public transportation in this area is bus -- SAVDA (www.savda.it) offers bus service to Aosta from Milan and Torino, and buses ply the scenic road from Aosta to Cogne a half-dozen times a day (the hiking/skiing base for Gran Paradiso). Coming from the North, you can get to Aosta via Martigny, Switzerland on the (twice-daily, 2-hour) bus (coordinated change at the border, at Bourg St. Pierre). It is worth seeking this area out even without a car, as it is very unspoiled and authentic.
