Top Local Tips for Anacapri

Capri & Anacapri If you're active, definitely hike to the top of Anacapri, make the trek to Villa Jovis, and take the path between Anacapri and Capri. There are only a few roads that can take cars on Capri, much of it is walking. The main town of Capri is more crowded and aimed at tourists and cruises; we enjoyed staying in Anacapri which was quieter and more low key. Be sure to buy a bottle of the local perfume I think it's called Carthusia it's made by monks at the monastery and has local Mediterranean smells like lemon and green tea, very fun.

Boat tour around the island The hotel can book it for you and have there shuttle service take you to the dock. We enjoyed this tour and would recommend you just go with your group on a smaller boat than a large on with lots of other people. It was just my husband and I and our captain. We were able to visit the caves all the way inside where the bigger boat tours could not go.

Hotel Pick-up Have yourself picked up from the port of Capri by the hotel car and rent a Vespa in Anacapri. If you go out the hotel premises, turn right and walk the very short distance to Anacapri. Its only 200 metres and you will see a petrol station where they rent the bikes. This is a great way to explore the whole island and you won't have any parking problems. The locals of Anacapri are very friendly, so talk to them. They really enjoy it but they are too friendly and respectful to come and chatter you up. So you'd have to start the conversation but once you do, they brighten up and enjoy explaining and helping. For eating, certainly do it, if only once, in the hotel because this is an experience you don't want to miss. In Anacapri, look for the small entrances which look "like nothing". These are the real good places to go. Just go and see!
