Top Local Tips for Amalfi

Excellent restaurants We spent two nights in Amalfi and we ate at two excellent restaurants: Trattoria San Giovanni (just to the left of the main piazza in Amalfi) and La Perla (watch for signs on the left as you walk up the main street off the piazza). Be sure to get the pizza at San Giovanni and the lemon cake at La Perla.

HIking & Meals in Amalfi Area We recently spent two weeks in the Amalfi area. I generally loathe touristy resort areas, and while there is certainly more than enough of that in Amalfi, there are plenty of fantastic opportunities to get out of the throngs of tourists and enjoy some fantastic hiking, going from village to viillage. If you walk just 10 minutes outside of the towns, you can find quite areas that are amazingly non-touristed. We used the Sunflower Guide series book on the Amalfi Coast to guide our walk selection and had a great time. For best bets on food, we skpped Amalfi & Ravello and had great meals in Atrani, about a 10 minute walk from Amalfi. Better food, better prices. We had wonderful meals at A Pranza and Acate on the beach.

Buses and Ferries We hired a car and drove from Naples Airport to Amalfi but driving here is stressful as the road rules (there are no rules!) are very different to the UK. I would recommend using Ferries and Buses as they are reliable and cheap.
