Top Local Tips for Alghero

Local Driving / Excursions Hiring a car is very expensive in Sardinia, though the driving should be a good ex[erience outside of busy Alghero town. Local drivers generally respect the rules of the road, unlike very many other places. Various excursions can be booked with reception as well as your rep. They are generally excellent value for money and are conducted by well informed and educated guides. The one to the Costa Smeralda affords you 3 hours of leisure time at a salubrious seaside resort as well as a nice stop at the millionaires paradise of Porto Cervo. Do take the resort train into the centre of town from the coach park.

Alghero Airport Airport is small - not geared for tourisium - departure lounge even smaller do not expect to get a 'Duty Free' shop - even though small you can expect long wait to check in your baggage. Taxi transfers are only 7 mins to Hotel Dei Pini - along empty country lanes which was great, especially if you only stay for a few nights.

Try to rent a scooter or car at the airport Transportation is limited to an fro the hotel. You´ll be bette roff with your own transport.
