Ask for a room with a view

from FionaCC
This hotel is in a very good location, we arrived late about dinner time on a sunday and we were v dissapointed with the view from our room considering we picked the hotel to have a room overlooking the sea! The room we were given overlooked a flat oof which was crammed with large airconditioning tubes & various plant, we had to close the curtains it was so unsightly!
We asked to change room or to be upgraded but they were fully booked. I would strongly recommend you ring ahead if you are arriving late, to ensure a room overlooking the harbour... the room was lovely & clean and the food & room service very good...

Strongly recommended

We stayed two nights in the Talbot while on business in Wexford. It's a modern and spacious property with an excellent restaurant. There are several good value deals for travellers available on the website in winter or in midweek - we paid 200 euros for two nights double room, with two breakfasts and one dinner for two with bottle of wine included. This worked out cheaper not only than other hotels in the town but also than most B+Bs in the area, especially since the dinner menu is we ate is normally 30 euro a head.
The staff told us that we had been upgraded to the "executive suite" on arrival but aside from the extra bed in the room I couldnt really see what differentiated our room from others.
The only downside was that a window would not quite fully close in the room, making the noise coming up from the street somewhat intrusive at night. It wasnt a problem midweek but might have been more of a problem on weekend nights given the bar below.

I have just arrived back after an over night stay in the Talbot Hotelin Wexford. I was looking forward to staying here after hearing of its upgrade & indeed on arrival I was not disappointed. The reception area is large, airy, modern and the reception staff where very friendly. We were given a room on the first floor to the rear of the hotel, the room itself was clean but compact & appeared to have relatively new curtains etc. but the generally feel was still of an old hotel room, in my opinion not having gone far enough in the refurbishment of either the rooms or the small bathrooms. The room was freezing and the radiator didn't seem to work so we asked for another room which we were given without hestiation. Unfortunately for us they only had a smoking room on the third floor, this was larger but smelt like an ashtray...our own faults for agreeing to taking it but I have stayed in smoking rooms before and honestly have never smelt anything like it, in all my years as a smoker & living with smokers. Even the hall area on the third floor smelt bad & something more than cigarettes. The bar area is beautifully presented, the staff friendly, the food lovely & the entertainment spot on. The breakfast was plently full, tasty with a good selection for all. However overall I feel the bedrooms are not of a RAC 4star rate. P.S. Don't forget your hairdryer...all they have are those silly wall mounted hairdryers in the bathroom which are useless.

Great value

We booked a winter package (3 B&B and 2 even dinners) with an executuve room. On arrival we were upgraded to the River suite.

The hotel is officially classified as a 4 star and in almost all regards deserves the rating. Although built around 1902 the hotel is very (but not too) modern, completely clean and has a very relaxing athmosphere. The hotel bar and dining room serve great fresh food.

Our suite had a view of the river and Irish sea, make sure to ask for a room with a view if possible. The bathroom was huge by any standard and the suite had a bedroom and smaller room with chairs, leather couches and a small dining table. Both the bedroom and other room had a flat screen TV with around 10 channels.

The only slight downside is that the hotel is weak on in-room amenities: just one smallish bath-towel per person, no bathroom robes or minibar. If the management could see to these small details them this would be a great 4 star hotel.

I would really recommend this hotel to anyone touring the southeast or any Irish people looking for a weekend or midweek break. Wexford is a much nicer town than I expected, great buzz. Rosslare strand is 20 min away by train for anyone who wants a great beach.

This was my second time in the talbot and again I was impressed. Our room was a little on the small side for the price but was spotless and offered a splendid view of the sea, right across the road from the hotel. The hotel was busy when we arrived with a wedding so if its a quiet time your after then the weekend may not be the best time to visit. We tried the restaurant on the Friday night, main courses €20-26, good quality seafood. There is a nice pool in the hotel, a jacuzzi and sauna, also a gym upstairs and a beauty salon, my partner went for a treatment and said the standard was good. All facilities were well managed and clean. The Talbot is tastfully decorated and has a large comfortable bar and lounge area. Staff are courteous but not obtrusive. I would stay there anytime.

Stayed at the Talbot for one night on a bus tour and then again for 2 nights on our own. Rooms were roomy and clean. Restaurants and food were great. Staff very friendly and helpful. The only thing I noticed was that while on the bus tour we got nicer rooms and more amenities in the room then when we were on our own. Not sure if this was planned or just circumstance, but we had 2 rooms and the same thing applied to both.

Total value for money!!!

I stayed at the Talbot hotel for a weekend break with my fiancee & baby boy. We were offered a great weekend deal with breakfast and 1 evening meal included. From my experience these deals usually meant basic accomodation & service however the Talbot hotel was leagues above this. The rooms were a good size and immaculately clean, the hotel itself was modern and consisted of a beautiful restaurant with a good menu and a large bar with a separate residents bar The leisure club/salon were very well fitted and catered for all family members with a playroom open 3 days per week. This was great but what made the stay even better was the exceptional friendliness of the staff, from the moment we checked in to the room service dinner (delivered by Paddy) and the welcoming bar staff (another Paddy), the leisure club attendants and breakfast staff - all superb and will ensure I recommend this hotel to my family & friends for a stress-free weekend away.

Stayed at the Talbot in Wexford on 17 April 2005. Sits right on the quey overlooking the Slaney River estuary and the Irish Sea. Newly modernized, it is clean and beautiful. Rooms are well furnished and clean. Service was great from top to bottom. Pool and spa make it intersting for children and adults. Make sure to ask for directions to the Sky and Ground Pub and the restaurant above called Heaven.

We stayed at this hotel in April 04 with 2 young children. Rooms were high standard and very clean. Food in hotel was excellant as was service all round. Leisure centre was lovely and the pool was warm. Makes a change from some hotels in Ireland. Certainly one of the best hotels I have stayed in Ireland. Great location for touring the South!

Top Local Tips for Wexford

Great place to eat We had a fabulous meal at The Vine, Thai restaurant on the main street in Wexford. From downstairs ,it looks very shabby but the restaurant is upstairs and the food is great. Portions are very big so share starters. It had a great buzz too and was full by 8pm on a Thursday night. We ate at 6.30 when it opened so didn't need a booking but it may be needed if you were dining later.Staff were friendly and very good at advising on best choices from the menu. Prices are very reasonable too.Overall, a real treat.
