No sleep, no sympathy

Arrived in hotel, upgraded to nice room, had a nice swim and meal. Went to bed and fire alarm went off 5 times I think. Next day, shattered. No offer to discount this stay or next. Will not forget or return.

Loved the ferrycarrig

My husband and I stayed in the Ferrycarrig with a group of our friends last may and we could not recommend it more!
The rooms were nice but definitely the location is what makes the hotel magical. Every room has a water view. The bar downstairs has outdoor seating looking over that same fantastic view. We were spoiled with the weather that weekend and we could not have picked a nicer hotel in all of Ireland to stay at in nice weather. The pool is fantastic too ... it also looks over the view! The bar is beautiful and the food excellent. The restaurant was nice ... not fantastic but nice ... but we didn’t feel like we had had an awful experience, just that there was a lack of atmosphere in there compared to the rest of the hotel. Wexford is also a lovely little town with lots to do that you can go explore in.
We are all professionals in our 30s and are quiet used to nice hotels & restaurantsand & out of 14 people in our group (all couples) not one person had a bad thing to say about the place. I am unsure of what some of the less complimentary reviews expectations were but I can tell you that there was a wedding there each night that we stayed also and they didn’t interfere with us in the least … the wedding reception room is off to the side with no bedrooms over it and as for rowdy guests … it certainly was not an issue and I can not see the staff allowing any such behaviour! On that note, the staff were fantastic. Take heart that you will not be disappointed with your stay here.

Excellent, excellent, excellent

We stayed in this hotel for the New Year. I was very impressed with the staff. They were so friendly and nothing was any bother. The young man at reception when we arrived was the essence of what Irish hospitality should be. We ate in the restaurant and really enjoyed the superb meal served to us by the friendly & efficient staff.(Compliments to the chef) The lady in the grey jacket was so pleasant. Our room was lovely and very clean. Breakfast was very tasty. I had the cinnamon toast with berry compote which was delicious. We will be visiting this hotel again and would highly recommend it to others.

Excellent service at the Ferrycarrig

Have just returned from a wedding at the Ferrycarrig Hotel. It was brilliant. The staff are amazingly helpful and friendly, the service is excellent, the rooms are lovely with beautiful views over the water, food was superb and the bar food is also very good. There was live music in the bar on Saturday evening and the atmosphere was great. The leisure center is top class. All in all I would definitely rate this hotel very highly and will return for a quiet weekend.

Awesome Spa, crap hotel

We stayed 2 nights, I was very happy with the spa, between my partner and I we had 5 treatments and it was bliss.
The hotel restaurant was over rated, we fully expected a top quality meal, the prices indicated top quality - the result was minimal/absent servers and a basic unremarkable meal.
The room was a complete disappointment. Cheap furniture, stained carpet, 1 star fittings in the bathroom. I was shocked at the rate we paid for such a terrible room and was sure that there had been a mistake, that maybe our reservation had been switched. I checked with the front desk, our room at €202 a night was the biggest rip-off I've experienced in Ireland.

Not very happy..

I stayed for a night at the ferrycarrig with my wife and 2 year old daughter. I`m a native of Ireland but live and work in the U.S. for a tour operator. I was dissapointed with the overall experience.
What bothered me the most was the fact that we have a 2 year and had told her that we would be enjoying their indoor pool the evening we arrived. We got her ready for a swim,bought the swimmies,pool cap etc and managed to get them all on her. Upon entering the pool we had somone from the pool desk( where we had just bought all this stuff ) come and tell us that they had a policy that children were not allowed in the pool past 6 or 6.30 pm. What a ridiculous policy to have. The pool was empty and after a short argument at the pool desk they decided to " do me a favor " and allow us to use the empty pool for a half hour. If you have children you will understand my frustration. I can`t imagine the reasoning for such a policy particularly when you consider the amount they charge per night. I guess they don`t want to upset the leisure club membership.Absurd !!
I will not stay there again, nor will I recommend them to the thousands of people I deal with in the travel business each year.

I live locally and went to stay in the Ferrycarrig for a weekend in June. Normally I go there to experience dinner in the restaurant or lunch in the bar and I thought I would get away for a weekend and really relax. And that I did. I don't understand some of the reviews on this site because there was a wedding when I stayed also, but it couldn't possibly interfere with my sleep, my dining experience or the spectacular view from the bedrooms - there is not anything like it in Wexford. Compliments to Dennis, the night manager who's character is that of the true Irish hospitality industry and being a local and a guest of the Ferrycarrig I am proud to see such an establishment flying the flag for Wexford.

Not a place to relax

This hotel is most certainly not the place to go to relax in Wexford. The bar is always very crowded and is mainly concerned with serving food. A nice quiet drink is not an option here. It is more of a business hotel than a tourist one, but their advertising doen't reflect this. There were three different business seminars taking place on the sunday of our stay which resulted in people everywhere.
It does have it's good points though. The food and service is very good, although a bit rushed at times. The rooms are also nice. Overall, it is vastly overpriced (unless you get a special offer) and definitely not worth a return visit.

I read the other review about Ferrycarrig Hotel in Wexford with both interest & disgust. The point that this guest felt that a wedding such as our own would have "completely spoilt" their stay sounds rather unfare. I recently got married in Ferrycarrig and have just sent them a long overdue letter to convey our special thanks for the wonderful service we & our guests received from the moment we made our wedding plans to the day after our wedding, when we were bid farewell! Both of our families were very impressed with all aspects of the Hotel, The staff, accommodation, food & service, and especially the attention given to the children. The Ferrycarrig lived up to all our expectations and went way beyond our wildest dreams. Words cannot describe the high regard in which we hold the Ferrycarrig & their staff.

Not relaxing

We took a five night break at the Ferrycarrig Hotel, August 2005, we took a junior suite, and as they say, ‘it was a game of two halves’, the food in particular was very good, the bar meals in the Dry Dock bar and meals in Reeds Restaurant were all excellent, the staff are a credit to the hotel.
The accommodation was very good, but, and it is a very big but, on our first four days there were wedding receptions, despite voicing our concerns on arrival and requests for a quieter room, (sorry there’s nowhere else to put you!) we did not get much sleep for the first four nights at all, between children running up and down the corridors, very noisy adults returning to rooms and the row that went on somewhere on the premises until 5am, this is not a hotel for relaxation. We did notify reception but to no avail, no other room available, fortunately our last night was Sunday and no wedding.
It is unfortunate that weddings completely spoilt our stay because with some sleep and relaxation the Ferrycarrig could be a nice place to stay. We left more tired than we arrived, it did not live up to its advertisement, Ferrycarrig Hotel the peace of Ireland you’ve been dreaming of….sorry but you need sleep to dream

Top Local Tips for Wexford

JFK Park near New Ross Well worth a visit watch out for Tractors on road though can be narrow at times

Sightseeing The Natonal Heritage Park is just across the road from the hotel and is definately worth a visit They have aespecially if you have children. It will keep them occupied for a few hours or more! Pack a picnic and take a raincoat (just in case).There is a tour, audio visual show and a restaurant and gift shop.We thought it was well worth the money.There is a FAMILY ticket available which works out cheaper. Also, to the right of the hotel is an old norman castle/lookout. It has seats and good views of the estuary and costs NIL.

Great restaurant A hidden gem of a restaurant is Fordes on Crescent quay. From the outside is does not look much but go upstairs to the restaurant and you will be pleasantly surprised. The decor is a rich red. The staff are extremely friendly and cannot do enough for you. But the food is out of this world.
