Not what we booked

We booked 2 rooms when checking in we were told we had been upgraded to 2 apartments with complimentary bathrobes and slippers. Apartments were in separate block from hotel, they had kitchen/living area and 2 double bedrooms. However, they were a bit worn and definitely not a 4 star standard and in need of refurbishment, as we were only there for 1 night. There was no point in complaining, but I would not return to this hotel. On a more positive note, the hotel staff were very friendly, but I did not receive the little luxury I thought I was booking into.

We had a wonderful time at your hotel we were a groop of o.a.p from England, and enjoyed ourselves and everyone was so nice to us. Food great- we wonder why we ever left the old country ? Like to go back just one thing that might help older people,is to have an non slip mat outside the bath. I had a slip which left me with quite a bruise. T .G nothing broken. This is just a suggestion so thank you once again for your hospitality. colette mc sharry

Wonderful

from A TripAdvisor Member
Myself, my husband and my two year old son have just returned from a wonderful charming stay in the Carlton Millrace Hotel. Our stay was exceptionally pleasant considering the appalling weather we are currently experiencing. The food both in the bistro and the restaurant were great however overall we preferred the meals and atmosphere in the bistro considering we had a 2yr old with us. Our little fellow was made so welcome with all staff greeting him and saying hello. The rooms were spotless. Before we left we asked to see the apartments/suites they offer. These were wonderful also. Two bedrooms, one ensuite comprising also of a living and dining area. We will definitely be back. For anyone intending to come here with childen, there is an inhouse kiddies club for kids from 4yrs up. Bunclody is a small town but is a good base from which to do some travelling and return to later.

Lovely hotel, lovely staff.

We have just returned from a very pleasant stay in this hotel. On the plus side the staff are excellent. Always smiling, always helpful. The room was spotlessly clean. The breakfasts and evening meal excellent. Free newspapers each morning. On the minus side. The heat in the hotel bedroom and common areas was excessive. After switching off the heating we had to resort to opening the bedroom window while we were there. There is no air conditioning. Another negative was the late check in. We were told 3 p.m. but our room only became available at 3.30 p.m. The car park is small and the overflow car park is pot holed and muddy....a bit of tarmac would be helpful. Having said that we enjoyed our stay made all the better by the lovely staff.

Very nice, but just that

On arrival to the Millrace all was good and as it should be. Parking can be somewhat limited at times as the leisure centre is used by locals also.

The reception area is very nice, and staff on arrival were very helpful and pleasant. Check in was very smooth, apart from only one receptionist being present at the desk, who seemed to be also taking direct calls, as if the hotel did not have a switch board or operator.

We had arrived early but they did the room priority so we got in soon. We were located on the third floor, two lifts in the main reception were available to whiz us up.

The room was....nice....a little on the small side, but generally what you would expect from a 4 star. The view from our window was an unkempt agricultural field, and a graveyard to the left.

The bathroom was nice, marble, however the shower knob was a little cumbersome, and required some delicate fine tuning to maintain constant temperature.

The presentation in the rooms was excellent; the housekeeping staff were very pleasant and made an effort in the rooms. Little things like tidying and placing towels neatly.

Tea and Coffee facilities present and in working order. There is however no bottled water placed in the rooms.

Lady Lucy’s

We had dinner on our first night in Lady Lucy’s with its wonderful panoramic view of Bunclody. The meal was beautiful, and staff again unsurpassable. Well worth it. The table d'hote was €37.00 and offered
great variation. The only problem with the meal was the low quota of staff present, only two waitress seemed to be circulation on the floor, and there was often someone waiting to be seating to settle their bill. This is however a managers responsibility, and the staff present did as best they could, which was quite satisfactory.

In the morning however Lady Lucy was transformed into a free for all breakfast. On one morning I was approached three times to submit my room number, the food was nice, the usual. There was never enough morning papers to go around, and the early bird did indeed catch the worm in this regard.

The Leisure centre was not what I expected from this 4 star resort. It in itself requires a major face lift. The swimming pool resembles a scalene triangle. It was however divided into a band of screaming kids, and a children’s swimming lesson group. Paint crumbled from the walls in patches. The Jacuzzi was standard with the sauna a little weak. The steam room was perfect apart from its tiled interior. Lockers appeared to be free of charge, and a key was supplied with an elastic band. Towels were also provided. To be honest, the leisure centre was 3 star at most.

On our last day we sampled the bar food. It was good, and the place had a nice atmosphere.

I really want to give this place Above Average but it needs to do a little more woork for this. If it wasnt for its pleasant, helpful staff it would sink lower down the ratings.

Overall? High grade 3 star hotel.

No Faults

Incredible

from deanyoid
I have never left a review here before but felt I had to about this hotel. I stay in many hotels everywhere- this place was mega impressive!
Everyone was just so frendly- bar staff, waitresses, reception etc. Nothing was too much trouble.
The price was fantastic too.
Then we discovered Lady Lucy's Restaurant. It is on the top floor, overlooking the little town though a semi circle of windows!
The look and surroundings of this restaurant are truly gorgeous.
Then the food! Top Drawer food and we were so amazed by the qualty of the starter(Dressed Crab and bacon salad) we sent a pint of Heineken beer to the chef who cooked it. Haven't ever done that before!!
Then the main course- Fillet Steak- another 2 pints were sent to the kitchen!!
The pudding was to die for too.
You have to stay here. Excellent everything!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant Hotel

A realy nice hotel located in the small quite town of Buncloudy in Wexford. The is a modern and plush hotel that has great facilities such as spa and gym, bar and Restaurants. A great choice of places to eat is also available in this hotel.

Very comfortable large bedrooms with all amenities you would expect from a 4 star hotel.

The food was wonderul in this hotel and there was a great buffet breakfast in the mornings .

Another hotel that i highly reccomend

Would be happy to return

We enjoyed our weekend break in the Mill Race Hotel, found the service excellent and liked the town of Bunclody.

We stayed in a family suite (a 2 bedroom apartment adjacent to the hotel). The accomodation was fine, but as previous reviewer noted there was a kitchen area with a kettle but no teapot, and just 4 cups and saucers and 4 teaspoons, no other cutlery, plates or glasses. However, we did buy some stuff in the local Centra for our lunch and I went to the bar and the waitress was perfectly happy to give me 6 plates, 6 knives and forks and she brought over 6 glasses and a high-chair.
Also there was no TV remote in the room but it was sorted as soon as we mentioned it.

The rooftop restaurant was good, apart from being left a long time for someone to take our order. The swimming pool was a peculiar triangular shape with one side being a wall, so there was no normal deck/poolside on that side.

I found the people in the town of Bunclody to be friendly and helpful, including in the Chantry Restaurant - although the food, while not bad, didn't match the service.

Overall I was very happy with the hotel.

Mixed bag

from FrequentTraveller055
I was disappointed overall, the town is lovely and the hotel looks great, it has the potential to be a 4 star but the needs to pull ip its socks a little. The rooms are nice but there is noise from the bar area, something needs to be done about soundproofing if they are going to have bar enterntainment at night. The service is very inconsistent, for example the restaurant is good for an evening meal and staff were attentive but the experience at breakfast was the complete opposite, it resembled the hot food counter in the local garage. Likewise the bar and leisure centre did not feel like 4 star but the Spa was fantastic. The spa was easily the best thing about the hotel and for once felt like we received the service and attentiveness you expect from a 4 star hotel. The only criticism is that the treatment rooms could be better soundproofed, it seems like a lot of rooms in the hotel are partition walls. If you can get a room away from the bar , eat in the restaurant, indulge in the spa and tour the local area then you will enjoy, if not you might be dissappointed.

Nice but Problems

from Donnagh
Booked hotel for an anniversary present as it offered good spa/ beauty treatment options. However on arrival, it was discovered that availability for every treatment was booked out for the weekend. The hotel facilities are NOT exclusively for guests which takes from the place. The swimming pool and gym are open to the public and so not available at certain hours. The hotel is modern and well presented and the restaurant was excellent.
The noise at night is something I have never experienced in any hotel, I had read on trip advisor before that noise was a problem but certainly didnt realise the extent of the problem. We warned!
Last but not least, be advised not to stay when the weather is bad as there seems to be a problem with the water supply. After filling a bath with water, it was a dark brown colour and did not clear from the taps after running. Even after changing rooms, the problem persisted. This is a problem that the hotel is clearly aware off but have not acted upon or seem too distressed about.
After highlighting the problem, we were looked at, as if we were over reacting and played down the problem. After beeing fobbed off with reassurance that there would be follow up by the general manager, alas, so follow up was ever seen. So, if you are ok to soak in a bath of murky water of wash your teeth in it, this should be just right! Pitty realy as this is a lovely hotel.

Would return again.

Stayed here with my wife and 18mth old son for a few nights in August 2006. Food was excellent in Lady Lucy Restaurant. Room was clean and of ok standard. A lot of the UK TV channels didn't work on the TV. Not sure if it warrants a 4* grade. Leisure centre facilities were clean/average. Beware of broken glass in bar ice. Would return again.

Top Local Tips for Wexford

Toffee and Thyme If your looking for an excellent restaurant in Enniscorthy go to 'Toffee and Thyme', its expensive but worth it! Food and service are unsurpassable! Probably the best in Enniscorthy.

Nice Chinese Restaurant The new chinese restaurant on the main street in Bunclody serves excellent food at reasonable rates. Although a bit bright, it's a nice place

A nice place to eat Their is a wine bar and bistro right next door to the hotel and the food is out of this world and reasonably priced as well
