We lived the dream
from A TripAdvisor Member
Wow, wow and wow again. My partner and I visited The Castle November 2006, and were so stunned at the sheer beauty of the place we are returning in November this year (2006) this time for the week instead of two nights. From the minute we arrived, and had our car keys take off us and our car parked for us, to the day we checked out, we were living the dream in a fairy tale castle. Words cannot describe the sheer beauty of this place. Everything from our room (The Roache Room) to the dinner to the breakfast (amazing) to the delightful staff was perfection from beginning to end. We simply did not want to leave.
Wonderful, wonderful. You must go.

Amazing Stay
from nancenet70
Everything about our 1 nite stay at the Waterford Castle was perfect. Upon arrival on the car ferry, our luggage was taken to our room (which by the way was upgraded to the Executive Suite for free) and he even parked our car. The same guy was also the guy who served us our amazing afternoon tea as well as tended bar at nite, the staff are all gracious and kind and put in a long day!
The Suite was gorgeous, bedroom, living room, large bathroom with clawfoot tub and fancy old fashioned painted porcelain toilet and sink, complete with toiletries, hair dryer, slippers and robe. The desk in the bedroom was graced with a plate of fresh fruit and bottled water which was such a nice touch after a long journey.
We walked the grounds for a bit - and then went to have afternoon tea which was delious, sandwiches, fresh baked scones and tiny creme brulee and cheesecake.
The dinner was fabulous. The service and food were amazing and the chef made accomodations for my pregnancy as well as my vegetarian diet. We then had our dessert and tea delivered to our room about an hour and a half later as we were too stuffed! Two staff members brought it to us in perfect time. The breakfast was also delicious.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay here, we definitely felt like we were treated like royalty and hope to make it an annual event!

Waterford Castle was wonderful!
from VGiannis
My husband and I just got back from a trip to Ireland and I felt compelled to write a review of Waterford Castle. It was wonderful! Certainly, if you like staying exclusively at W Hotels, then you will not like this. However, if you do like to indulge in classic accomodations with excellent service, then this is the place for you. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and spotless. We had a lovely dinner in the dining room and truly felt like royalty! I can recommend Waterfod Castle without hesitation.
Charming, Warm...
from A TripAdvisor Member
From the ferry over to the ferry back, the stay was perfect. Our luggage was taken to our rooms and the car parked with such ease and expertise that we hardly noticed it had been done. The rooms were large and airy and felt very at home. We certainly enjoyed meeting 'Beamish' the castle cat, who made the castle feel more like home for us. Our dining experience was superb. The staff in the dining room was very attentive. The pianist was excellent and also quite a nice fellow. If there would be a complaint at all, it would be that there were no brochures on the castle history available at the desk. We were told they were all out and nothing was available. When asked for a quick review - it made little sense after comparing it to the castle history online that I read after returning home. I would go there again, I would recommend it to anyone who would be wanting a 'real castle' feel.
Charming, Romantic, the highlight of of our whole trip

Entering Waterford Castle is like entering another world ..... my husband and I were made to feel so very comfortable and at home. The staff were all exceptional and the dinner divine. If you're looking for a 5 star boutique hotel this is not for you but if you want some old world charm and a unique experience you will not forget this hotel.
Fantastic hotel and experience
from Amsterdamer
I arrived home from Waterford castle yesterday and loved every moment of my stay. Eating at the castle's famous restaurant while listening to the pianist play old tunes, the friendliness of the staff, the gorgeous deep old bathtub, the walking track, playing chess by the huge fireplace while sipping port, the friendly ferry man that takes you over the lake... so memorable. If you are looking for a romantic and special holiday, stay here (and perhaps ignore any review that states that the hotel is a bit old (um, its a CASTLE!!!))
Liked the hotel

The hotel was lovely, but a little run down. Our room was spacious and clean, the view was nice, but the bathroom shower was terrible. It was not very easy taking a shower as the water does stream out onto the floor, also the water pressure was very weak. But my sister took a bath and was very comfortable.
The staff were very helpful and nice, they are diffently a four star!
Can't comment on the food, didn't eat there.
I would recommend this hotel for the full castle experience!

Well, if you want the full-on castle experience, you get it here. Very charming place with lots of character, huge room (we stayed in the Ormond room) with postcard views of the lush grounds-- like something out of a fairytale, really. The furnishings could have been a bit more substantial, but the place still had a lot of charm. We skipped the dinner but had a nice breakfast in the conservatory. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Overall a very nice and unique experience (especially at Christmas time!)

From the friendly staff, to the room we stayed in, everything was incredible. It was very romantic and we loved every second of our stay.
Special Place
from slocumdave
We stayed five nights in four different castles in Ireland. Waterford was my favorite. It was secluded, beautiful, and had perfect service. The food was great, both supper and breakfast. Gillian, the manager, greeted us upon arrival and was the perfect hostess. I hope to return.

sunday morning if you stay the weekend, go to the bar and make yourself comfortable on one of the sofas and spend the morning reading the complementary sunday papers with a drink from the bar
Phones did not work @ Waterford Castle Also, their phones were not working I could not call home as I had planned to do. Person I desk told me she would call back my room to dial out for me and never did. I called back an hour or so later and she was unable to dial out for me.
