I have just returned from using a 2 night B&B 1 evening meal(for €88 pps) voucher at the Lakeside Manor Hotel in Virginia, Co. Cavan. Their website described a dining room with beautiful views over the lake. We checked on a Friday at about 5.30pm and came down to dinner at about 7.30pm having decided to avail of the vocher for Friday's meal as we had plans for Saturday. We were then advised that the dining room was closed but we could eat in the bar. Breakfast was also served next morning in the bar alongside 25 or so fishermen trying to organise a competition at the tops of their voices. (No problem with them, I just didn't want to be there!) Breakfast was served in the dining room on Sunday morning on top of disposable paper table cloths still dirty from the night before and a half smoked cigarette and dead flies on the window sill (inside). We mentioned when checking out the situation regarding the dining room and the evening meal. Ridiculous excuses such as we booked online so how could anyone tell us the dining room wasn't open; that a student checked us in and anyway they only open the dining room on Saturdays in winter - this is August!!! We were charged full price for fish 'n' chips in the bar as though we had had a proper evening meal in the dining room. Not good enough. The bedroom was clean and well furnished but the rest of the place stank. Staff lovely except whoever we spoke to when we checked out (probably the owner) couldn't care less what we thought - they had our money. A rip off.
