Historical Traveller Reviews of Radisson Sas Hotel

from oliveSligo
Excellent hotel, beautifully and tastefully decorated. The beds were extremely comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant topped of the evening with a beautiful meal. The staff were most helpful and very friendly. Will definately be going back.

Lovely room, great buffet breakfast

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very near the beach at Rosses Point.Lovely spacious modern rooms with fresh decor and every convenience . We were around the left side on the ground floor and it was quiet. The bed was HUGE. The breakfast was superb. We also had dinner there and it was delicious. I would definately go back there and recommend it to anyone wishing for a relaxing holiday. They have a SPA centre as well which is well worth the visit.

Great Stay

from wrc555
Having read some of the other reviews fot this hotel I wasnt sure what to expect, But I have just returned from a two night stay and really enjoyed it

I didnt notice the lack of atmosphere many people have mentioned - However it is worth high-lighting that I was staying over the new year so the hotel was busy and that may have been why.

Overall the Staff were extremly helpful - (more-so the local staff who go out of their way to be helpful and friendly)

Rooms were well equipt - the only problem I had with the room was the view - or lack of it - the room window looked straight at a roof - (not a flat roof) so there was no view at all but that didnt particularly bother me.
The food was good and although the breakfast was self service this meant you could eat as much as you liked! - If your going into Sligo to go out at night as I did you will need a taxi as its too far to walk - approx 2 miles from the centre of town

But overall, good hotel, with a nice leisure centre and friendly staff.

Good Business 4-star Hotel

from SarniaGirl
Have just spent 4 days staying at the Radisson for a break from the daily grind.

Hotel is very typical Radisson business-style hotel, located just a few minutes drive from Sligo, in a quiet residential area with partial views of Benbulben and Knocknarea, and overlooking the sea (front and some side rooms only).

Depends on what you're looking for in a hotel, but, as a single female traveller, I wanted somewhere spotlessly clean, with a decent-size room and bathroom, that also provided room service and where I could come and go from with the least possible fuss. And that's what I received! The room was spacious, very clean, as was the bathroom, and towels/sheets were changed on a regular basis (even though as requested, I hung my towels back up to indicate that I didn't require fresh ones every day!). Room facilities include tea/coffee making, plus iron/ironing board, mini-bar and safe.

Yes, the reception area and bar might be a bit bland and impersonal, but no more so than other "business-class" hotels, and I do believe Radisson is aimed at the business traveller, rather than the leisure traveller. Having said that, there were several couples staying, plus families with young children.

I ate twice in the bar, both times couldn't fault the food - not "haute-cuisine", but certainly tasty, decent-size portions and friendly service. Not over-priced for a 4-star hotel either.

Overall, the hotel met my expectations. I worked in the travel business for over 15 years, and have stayed in everything from Travelodges, to the Peninsula in Hong Kong, 5-star luxury cruise ships, and tiny Irish b+b's (the latter being my favourite!).

If you're looking for an efficient, modern, slightly impersonal hotel, then the Radisson is ideal, and if you have a car, why not stay there rather than in the centre of Sligo, which I suspect gets rather noisy at night.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for that wonderful irish hospitality and somewhere with charm and character, I suspect from reports I've read, that Temple House or Ardtarmon House are for you!

atmosphere of an airport

from Ruadh
Room is more like an art gallery, cold and sterile. The hotel restaurant, bar, reception and foyer are all open plan and it really does feel like you are in an airport departure lounge. Had to make my own toast in this hideous industrial machine ended up burning my fingers.
No character in this hotel, nothing near this hotel its halfway between Sligo town and Rosses Point. Would recommend staying in Rosses Point.

Very Modern

from snowbiz100
Stayed in this location in September, 2005. The staff are friendly and try to be accommodating, although many seem new to their positions. The Hotel is new and ultra modern (If you are looking for Irish charm – this is not the place to stay). The breakfast is very good (hot items and a large selection of breads and cereals). I had no problems with ques, but I was typically there before 7:30. The leisure center has a nice size pool and small work out room. Its open until. 22:00 every evening except Sunday when its closed by 20:00. The rooms are large and comfortable (again very modern décor). The hotel offers 24 hr room service. The shoe shine machines in the hall are a nice touch. A few drawbacks I experienced: I did not get a requested wake up call on three separate days, the room sink drained very slow and one of the phones did not operate , The food in the bar is very good, but the service is far from adequate (at least on one occasion), the remote for the television did not operate. The staff seemed open to listening to feedback, but little if anything was done about it. Check in can take a while if you are following a tour bus, The hotel restaurant is good- but head to Rosses point- there are excellent seafood restaurants there and the views are beautiful.

A real quality hotel !

from RGavin
We stayed here with our 3 yr old for the first night of a tour of Sligo and Mayo. Our biggest regret was that we did not stay longer. A clean, friendly and modern hotel. The bar food was top class. Excellent views. While the bar was quiet the entertainment was good. Hope to be back soon !

A not so warm welcome!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Arriving to check-in, we were left waiting whilst the sole Receptionist juggled our transdaction with switchboard duty. Our subsequent complaint about being made to feel second best once our money had been secured must have fallen on corporate deaf ears as my friend witnessed the same thing happen later to some other new arrivals.
There was no priority given to residents as regards spa treatments so I missed out on that facility.
The hotel is comfortable but very anonymous and has the ambience of an airport departure terminal.
The setting, glorious weather and marvellous views were bonuses but maybe because none of these factors were down to Radisson!
Give this one a miss - there HAS to be better places to stay in Sligo where you will get a warm irish welcome and not the transplanted face of corporate America.

the ok sligo radisson sas

from Elmwoodone
Had to wait in line for breakfast for nearly 30 mins. When we did get seated breakfast was cold and not of a standard you would expect from a radisson hotel. also they had one of those awful machines where you had to make your own toast.I know in the scheme of things this might not seem like a big deal, but at 180 euro a night and they expect you to make breakfast! However the leisure centre was very good. pity the leisure centre dont do breakfast!

Would definitely return

from soneve
Stayed for one night on business trip. The hotel is lovely with nice views from the front. My room was very comfortable and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar food and breakfast was excellent. Did not get a chance to use the leisure centre. Would love to return for a short leisure break.

Top Local Tips for Rosses Point

The Town is a Kip The town is awful, really rough and there is a real hostile atmosphere, avoid it if you can and head out to Rossess Point.

Things to do in Sligo Hit the beaches at Rosses Point. Also, go to Streedagh beach - its a picturesque beach in the shadow of Ben Bulben mountain, with remains of its own Spanish Armada wrecked ship still visible on the beach, its a bit off the beaten track but is secluded & worth the effort.

Niland Gallery relaxed low key gallery with some nice food
