Pretty poor, not at all up to expectations

Excellent reception staff and a fabulous location with great views from the generous sized (front) bedrooms were spoiled by a generally tatty and uncared for interior. Most items could be cured by a little maintenance here and there. Smoking (Outside) area was filthy and unswept. Window interior catches were very dirty and failed to retain the window in the open position. In general, the web photos on the hotel site are not at all indicative of the current conditions. An excellent leisure centre is in the hotel grounds.

The "Gourmet dining" food was similarly mixed with beautifully cooked lamb utterly ruined by a "Rosemary and Mint Jus" that looked and tasted like tar and accompanied by potatoes which were the colour and the consistency of wet mud. Other vegetables were also overcooked. Breakfasts were much, much better and If you do stay here, the Blue Haven restaurant nearby is a much wiser choice for dining as also is the "Fishy Fishy" Restaurant almost next door to the hotel.

No internet availability although some staff insisted that there was until a more knowledgeable member said that thelack of service was due to a problem with the service provider.

It's a shame that such a prime location and well reputed hotel should have failed so badly to tempt a return visit.

Would recommend this hotel as it is a good location for exploring Kinsale. Everything you need is only a short walk away.

The room was nice and big with good air-conditioning. Very clean too.

The staff were very friendly and efficient.

Breakfast is a hot and cold buffet; is very varied and there is something for everyone.

The hotel has it's own carpark right outside which is very convenient.

I would definite revisit this hotel as it is excellent value.

Great food pity about the view

I was staying in another hotel in the area but the food was well reccommended in the Actons Hotel. We were given our choice of table [they were all empty with one exception] and we hadn't booked. The service was excellent and so was the food. The problem is were the restuarant is situated on the ground floor with a view of a carpark full of cars. It should be on the 4th floor overlooking the lovely harbour of Kinsale and it's marina not the looking into a row of parked cars.

Bit of a disappointment

Was really looking forward to staying in Kinsale but hotel was a disappointment. Beautiful location looking out over harbour and looked lovely from outside but inside was dated and shabby. Room was a very good size with excellent view of harbour and bathroom was big too but decor was very worn. Must have looked great in the 70s but in serious need of modernising now. Very impersonal and bland hotel. Overpriced for what it was and no breakfast included in rate.

Not romantic Irish place, but good value

The Actons Hotel in Kinsale has a large parking lot for Ireland and is in easy walking distance of everything in the down town area. They are right off the main street and easy to find.

They have several room sizes and our room was large enough to sleep 2 adults and 3 children and even had some living room furniture in there. This was by far the largest room we stayed in during our time in Ireland. The room was clean and quite, but kind of old and uninspired. Which didn't matter to us but it might to some people who come all the way to Ireland for charm. If that is what you want, stay at a B&B.

The hotel has a pool and workout facitlies. Several busines types were staying there and made use of the place.

The restaurant was very expensive for a dinner menu. We walked 10 minutes into town and it was fine. Breakfast was included in the room price, was buffett style and very good, but service was a bit lacking because of the number of guests there that day. We weren't in a hurry but it could have been better.

For the money, if you have a large family and need that much room, or just want a solid value without a lot of frills, this was a nice place and I would stay there again.

Perfect for families

Planning a family holiday in Cork (6 adults 4 children under 6) I checked out Actons for our 3 days in Kinsale. Some comments on Trip Advisor gave me cause for concern but the leisure complex and location persuaded me to choose Actons anyway. This proved to be a very good decision. For service and value for money, Actons cannot be faulted. While I concede that some of the soft furnishings need to be refurbished, with 4 lively children we were not unduly worried by that. The family room was huge and perfect for my son and family. My daughter was not happy with the room she & her family were first given -- a word to reception and they were moved to a suite with a second room perfect for 2 travel cots. We had stunning views of the harbour. Service in all areas was perfect - nothing was too much trouble. Sincere thanks to all at Actons for making our stay memorable.

great stay

Hi My wife and I stayed in actons on the 15 th of May based on the reviews we had seen on tripadvisor. I must say that it lived up to all of our expectations. Check in was smooth and efficent.The room was spotless and spacious and also overlooking the bay.
We ate in the bar that evening and it was excellent.Breakfast the next morning was top class it is a buffet but it seemed to be well stocked and lots of staff on hand to assist also the breakfast room is overlooking the bay so it was a great start to our morning.
all in all Kinsale is well worth a visit as is actons.

stopped at the Acton and found it to be a nice hotel had a room at the front of the hotel with a lovely view of the harbour the room was clean the shower was ok but the bath took about half hour to drain but was rectified once i told the staff about it. Was a bit pricey considering breakfast was not included. kinsale town was nice with plenty of eating places.I also stopped at the Captains Quarters a B&B round the corner excelent.

OK hotel -good location

Spent one night at Actons on a week's tour of Cork and Kerry. The hotel was OK but nothing special for the price. The best thing about it is the fairly central location being an easy walk from the centre of town. Kinsale itself is charming with excellent restaurants and interesting side streets. The Blue Haven bar is good to eat in informal surroundings. The seafood pancake was certainly worth going for! As for Actons, we booked a superior room - it was large but fairly dull with a double and single bed where a double and a sofa to sit on would have been sensible. Their literature says that all superior rooms have lovely harbour views - not really accurate as we could see the tops of some masts in the distance but the harbour and water eluded us!! One of the booking websites says that complimentary breakfast is available to all Acton's guests. Not true as they charge E12.50 for breakfast. All in all, a convenient stop over on the way to Kerry but if returning to Kinsale we would choose somewhere other than Actons.

Enjoyable stay, late bar

15 of us stayed in Actons for a Saturday night in March and we couldnt really fault it. The bar food was fine and the location very good. We also enjoyed a few late drinks in the residents bar until the small hours after we returned from a night club in the town. The price of the rooms was ok at €129.

Top Local Tips for Kinsale

Location Kinsale isn't a very big town but you need to be located in the town to really appreciate every part of your trip. If you stay outside of the town you have the expense of paying/waiting for taxis to take you to and from your desitnation so a hotel in the center of the town is what I would highly recommend for anyone travelling to Kinsale.

wide choice of places to eat Don't always eat in the hotel you are staying in. There is a great range of restaurants within minutes walk of each other, some offering well priced 'early bird' menus for orders received before 7.30 pm.

Hotel Packages Each of the hotels in Kinsale offers packages but from looking through each Actons Hotel offer the best and is in the best location in Kinsale. For an extra €40.00 per night you can upgrade to a Harbour View Bedroom which really is worth every penny as the rooms are lovely and the view from the rooms is spectacular! The hotel offers the same rates on their internet site as over the telephone but if you have a preferred room that you would like for your stay I suggest telephoning the hotel as they will always try to accommodate your request, if they can't they will suggest an alternative.
