Top Local Tips for Kilmessan
How to get there If you don't have a car, get the Bus Eireann Bus from city centre (Busaras). Get off at Dunshaughlin. Call hotel and if you are lucky and they don't have a wedding on, someone will probably pick you up. 8 miles from Dunshaughlin - about 15 euro taxi. Or, if you have a car, take N3 from city centre, keep left at end of village in Dunshaughlin, towards Trim. Take right 100 yards down the road and head for Kilmessan. Hotel at end of village.
Archaeology Well worth a visit to Newgrange. Most people think Newgrange is the most interesting site, and when asked on arrival which sites they would like to visit - i.e. Newgrange, Knowth, or both, may be inclined to pick Newgrange if their time is limited. It does take about an hour for each site, but it well worth going to both sites. We prefer Knowth due to the wealth of carved kerb stones there, but Newgrange is also very well worth seeing, just don't discount Knowth - it is brilliant, although it is probably partly the quality of the information given by the very well-informed guides which helps make it so interesting.
