Website Misleading

My girlfriend and I recently spent 3 nights B&B with 2 dinners on a special offer we found on the internet. The hotel was very clean and most of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. However from the photos on the website the hotel appears to be on its own in the countryside, this was not the case. It is positioned on a main road at the end of a long line of hotels and B&Bs (which is all there seems to be in Killarney). We found Killarney itself to be extremly boring, with very few activities for young people (we are 23 & 22), in fact no activities!!! Killarney is not a place for young people, more for older couples and foreign tourists.

On the website we noticed, and were both very interested in, the Health Spa and Rejuvination suite, which turned out to be nothing more than a hotel room with a bed removed and a massage table put in its place.

Food in the hotel was excellent with service to match.

Very good value for money, but then again we got the break on a very good offer.

It has been a while since we stayed at the hotel, but I just wanted to say that I LOVED it! My husband and I went to Ireland for our honeymoon, and my favorite hotel was the Riverside! It was a beautiful hotel in a lovely town and the staff was more than accomodating. Aer Lingus lost our luggage (I would NOT recommend flying with them) but the staff at the Riverside were so kind when they saw how upset and tired my husband and I were when we arrived - they let us check in 3 hours ealry, an experience I have never had anywhere else! They also booked a day trip to the Ring of Kerry for us. The little bar in the hotel was wonderful as well! The food was so so, but I don't like Irish food so it is not just the hotel's food. I would definitely recommend this hotel and when I go back to Ireland I will stay at the Riverside again- only this time I will stay longer!!

Nice hotel

We spent 4 nights in the Riverside in Jan '06. The hotel is in a great location about 10 minutes walk from Killareny town. Our room was fine, nothing special but nothing to complain about either. We had dinner one night in the restaurant, the menu was limited but the food was good. Staff in the hotel are lovely and very helpful, any requests we had were dealt with immediately.

I'd recommend this hotel for people who want a handy base from which to explore the area around Killarney.

We stayed here the second week of February 2006. I really can't think of a negative.
The rooms were bright and clean.
The hotel is very nice, peat fire at night in the lobby while sipping drinks.
Bar staff was outstanding. A lot of barstaff can be indifferent in Ireland. They were fast, friendly and professional.
6 Euro cab ride to center city. This is the minimum fare now. You can walk it but only in nice weather and feel like you need the exercise. Room rate came with breakfast which was served to you.
Free parking and a good base to explore Killarney and the Kingdom of Kerry.

With such a vast choice of hotels and b&b's in Killarney, it is a difficult choice to make when booking accomodation. But we certainly made the right choice in booking this hotel. Excellent food, great service, comfortable rooms, good location.
This hotel doesn't have a pool but very kindly they organise access to the Holiday Inn pool next door. I stay in hotels regularly in Dublin for work and I have rarely come across service and food as I did in the Riverside. It'as also 5 minutes walk to the INEC so if you are going to any shows/concerts there, I would recommend this hotel.

We have just returned from a long weekend in Killarney staying at the Riverside hotel and we will definitely return.The rooms are incredibly comfortable with the bathrobes and slippers a great touch.But above all it was the staff that are to be complimented most - going out of their way to help,always friendly and polite.

We recenlty attended a wedding in Killarney and stayed at The Riverside. We knew from the friendly greeting at reception that we would enjoy our stay.

The Bedroom was excellent and well above the standard of Hotels that are a lot more expensive. A short walk to the town centre and The Lakes this Hotel came as a very pleasant surprise.

You can never underestimate the value of good staff and the Riverside has an abundance.

I booked a weekend in the Riverside Hotel, Muckross Road, Killarney, Co.Kerry as a surprise for my boyfriend. It was a fantastic weekend. From the time of booking the girl in reservations was very helpful and also the girls in reception were equally helpful. The room we had was lovely and clean and we had great comfort.

We had booked in for a massage each on the Saturday and I really enjoyed it. It was definately worth it.

I would recommend the Riverside Hotel to anyone who would like a nice relaxing atmosphere.

I was immediately charmed when I walked into the hotel. The staff were very friendly and outgoing and check in was a breeze. The room was warm, inviting and well appointed and the bathroom was great. They included terry robes and slippers-what a nice treat. We booked a 2-night special getaway which included breakfast and one dinner.

It's an ideal location and it's great to hear the horse carts clip-clopping down the road. Killarney National Park is just a quick hop away and a great jumping point for the ring of Kerry.

Dinner was so good. The mussels appetizer was the freshest and best I've ever had!

Only drawback was that it was a bit unseasonably warm for Sept. and the windows didn't open wide enough to let the air in. Being a former New Yorker, I had to laugh when the busload of New Yorkers pulled in. They were quite delightful, but took a bit away from the Irish experience. Killarney itself was a bit too touristy and quite pricey to dine.

A Warm Irish Welcome

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights at The Riverside as part of our mini tour of Ireland last week. We stayed at several place during our trip and The Riverside stood out as the best of these by a very long way.

The accommodation was very good, and the meals - especially considering they were included in the package rate - were excellent. It is not often that you can have a cooked breakfast and say it could not have been better, but this was certainly the case. But above all, it was the hotel staff that made it such a pleasant place to stay. Without exception, the staff - reception, restaurant and bar - were friendly, courteous and helpful, and made us feel very welcome. And on the experience we had at the other hotels last week, that is definitely not the norm. A special mention for Clare, our waitress in the restaurant. Waitresses with a ready smile who seem to enjoy doing their job are rare. And the mini-sample of the chocolate brownies with my dessert was much appreciated!

We will certainly be staying at the Riverside next time we visit Killarney. Now if they can do something about the weather......

Top Local Tips for Killarney

Eating & Drinking in Killarney Prices are expensive all over Ireland, the restaurant that we really enjoyed was The Failte Hotel, College Street, Killarney. Food was excellent and the service was good, despite the fact that the waitresses had been really busy.

Just For Your Info First thing to do when you get to town is find Patrick and Ben his horse at the horse carriage tour line. A tour by carriage from Patrick is very informative and leads you to everything else on your stay. The horses are in front of the cinema. Patrick gave us info and suggestions on food and pubs and a picturesque tour of Killarney. For 10 Euro. The other thing keep in mind almost everybody stops serving food in Europe around 8:30pm.
