Historical Traveller Reviews of Muckross Park Hotel
We were a large party (18 people from 7 months to 66 years old) and stayed here for two nights in November. The staff was excellent, the food was fantastic, and the property is like a Four Seasons. My only regret is that the spa had no openings during our short stay...it looked great.
Pretty good - far too expensive
Muckross Park is a nice hotel. The staff were pleasant, the food was good. I feel paying €240 for a room in a decent 4* is outrageous, though. Didn't get to see the spa, which I gather is excellent. The breakfast was fine: coffee was ok, nice choice of hot food: bog standard fruits, juices weren't fresh. The pub food was nice: the bar itself is twee to look at but comfortable. The room itself was freezing when I arrived in, which isn't good enough at this time of year.
All in all, it's fine: it would have been a lot better had it been €100 cheaper.
the devils in the detail!!!!!
The hotel was fantastic and really great value. I've stayed in 'fantastic' hotels before, but what really clinched it for me, was the fantastic customer service. Everyone from the young guy hanging up xmas lights (who without prompting, helped us with our luggage) right up to the management.
The staff really were fantastic (and friendly). The spa is beautiful although I will admit that I did think it was slightly overpriced. The food was scumptious in both of the restaurants and the pub :) Overall I would highly recommend this hotel because the service was consistent. Everything down to the last detail (mouthwash in the toilets-fresh lilys in the vases) was brilliant. There was a power cut on our last night (not the hotels fault) and the staff couldn't have been more accomadating organising taxi's for us to get to another hotel in the area (for 'hot' food) One thing to note if you are with O2 (mobile network) you won't get any coverage in the hotel.otherwise a definite winner & I will be back.
Great service Great Spa
Muckross park is exceptional. The room was lovely, and the service exemplary. perhaps its just me, and sevice like this is commonplace at other hotels, but I have never been consistently referred to by name by the recepionists at a hotel anywhere! and they greeted me personally each time they saw me. They also escorted me to my room and expained the workings etc
The public rooms, lounge, bar etc and the Spa are lovely.
The spa is new and I spoke to several other guests who compared it to other spas and said it was the best they had been to, although I think some of the treatments may be a bit pricey. I arrived as a late booking and was unable to book treatments. The service in all departments was superb. I lost an earing in the spa, and I was sure no-one would have bothered to really look for it, and had resigned myself to its loss, but, next day there it was.
And the rhubarb crumble was the best I have ever tasted!
Super hotel !
We stayed at the Muckross Park Hotel in November 2006. The Hotel is located about 2 miles outside Killarney town and just down the road from Killarney National Park, Torc Waterfall and Muckross House. Check-in was efficient and our bags were kindly brought to our rooms by the hotel porter. We were impressed straight away. The lobby was decorated beautifully and the staff were friendly and polite. Our room was fantastic. It was very luxurious and also spotless. The bathroom had a big bath and separate shower and everything was very modern, clean and new! We would have liked a mini-bar to be in the room but if you wish, drinks can be ordered by phone and brought up but we did not avail of this service. We had booked two nights B+B plus one dinner. We had dinner at the hotel on the first night and it was delicious from start to finish. Definitely recommended. The service was also second to none. Breakfast is also a brilliant affair with an a la carte menu and also a buffet area where you can help yourself to meats, cheeses, yoghurts, juices, crossiants, pain au chocolat, muffins, breads, tea, coffee, cereals, porridge etc. The 'full-Irish' is a must. The hotel has an excellent spa. We did not avail of any treatments but did used the vitality area on one of the days which costs Euro50 per person per day. For that you get use of the vitality pool which is 1.15m and has jets etc, you can also use the two jacuzzis, outdoor hot-tub, sauna, steam-room, aromatherapy room, 3-option shower including 'Atlantic mist', 'Caribbean Rain' and 'Cold mist' which was very refreshing. In the changing area, good hair-dryers, GHD hair straightener, shampoos, conditioners, cleansers, toners etc are left around for your use. Also, towels, extra bath robes etc. I was really impressed with the spa. I would recommend you book early for the SPA, especially the vitality area as it gets booked up quickly. Luckily, we went down early on a Sunday morning and we had the place to ourselves. The only negatives were No.1 that I was really looking forward to having the UV camera photo taken of my skin but they were out of film and No.2 I would have liked a mini-bar in the room. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to return some day.
fabulous relaxing place
The attention to detail is apparant from the second you walk in the door. The hotel is elegant, quiet and charming. There are magazines everywhere and free tea coffee and biscuits all day. The spa is wonderful, really relaxing with great staff. In fact all the staff were very attentive and friendly- yet knew to leave you alone when chilling in one of the very grand drawing rooms. There was a wedding on while we were there and we didn't hear a peep from the party. The food was excellent, as were the reception staff, but I agree with the previous post about taking money out of credit card apon arrival- this was a bit strange. Overall found it a lovely few days and will definately go back.. They have some great midweek specials- great value!
There is no doubting that Muckross Park Hotel is a beautiful hotel, in an even more beautiful location. The rooms are furnished to a very high standard and the hotels restaurant and pub are a great option for dining. However, we found our 4 night stay tainted by a number of problems, most notably the noise (we had too move rooms twice as a result of being kept awake to 5am by a wedding party). To give the hotel credit they were apologetic and prompt in handling this, but its distruption you could do without when on holiday.
I stayed in the Muckross Park Hotel for one night and it was situated in a beautifully scenic region. Though on arrival at the hotel, the ambience was destroyed by a very snappy staff member who never explained their pre-authorisation policy to me. Apparently it is now rigour to pay a pre-authorisation to cover the cost of your room and an extras that might apply at this hotel. This affects your credit for up to five days afterwards! Yes I rang to have it all explained to me. I won't be staying again and will not be recommending it for friendly check in service.
Booked Delux Room, got delux room, the room rates as the largest I have ever been in. Clean, and fresh. Food is high quality and location between Muckross House and Kilarney is ideal. Visited local hotels to compare and by far the best. Paid €280 for two nights B&B. Definatily 4* hotel.
Charming with park at your back door
The rooms are charming, people as friendly as all the Irish. We loved being so near to the park. I would wake up every morning and go walking past Muckross Lake. Unbelievably beautiful!
The restaurant was good as well (a dinner was included in our package). Breakfast was also nice. The sitting rooms make you feel like your staying in an old mansion.
