Historical Traveller Reviews of Killarney Plaza Hotel & Spa

Loved it

from **Pampered**!!!-7
We loved this hotel. The room was huge and very very comfortable. The staff were very frendly and the food was great.
The highlight was the Spa. It was one of the best spa sessions I have ever had. Do not leave the Plaza without booking some treatments.

Stunning hotel.

from samandtom
This hotel is simply the most beautiful, most relaxing hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms are amazing and spacious, very luxurious with free molton brown goodies in the bathroom. The bar and restuarant are great with breakfast to die for (eat as much as you want with a HUGE range of foods to choose from), room service is fast if a little expensive, worth it just for the desserts though! The pool and spa are a definate must but make sure you book the spa asap as it gets booked up far in advance. Great location, right in the heart of it without being noisy AT ALL. I will return here again and again. Words can not describe the beauty of this hotel.

What a great surprise!

We were scheduled to stay at the Killarney Towers as part of our CIE Tour. As we were travelling late in November and the Towers are closed for the season, our group was moved to the Plaza.

My husband and I had a lovely room on the second floor. We had a view of the mountains and the room itself had the greatest ammenities.

The public rooms are gorgeous as well as the lobby. And the location! Right across from the jaunting cars and from town - you could walk anywhere from the hotel in 5 minutes.

Loved Killarney - Loved the Killarney Plaza

Yet again, 1st class!

Having spent some time at this hotel earlier this year, we couldn't wait to come back!
The room again did not disappoint - spacious and good amenities. Lovely toiletries and bath robes. Its the extra touches that make this 4* a cut above!

Try the spa for a relaxing experience and the leisure facilities will not let you down either. Good bar, Mentons restaurant, pool & jacuzzi all A1.
Not a bad word I can say about the place...

Very nice

Stayed 3 nights as part of tour. Entry is phenominal. Bar is lovely. Room is great size, warm and soothing. Bathroom is spotless and roomy. Beds are comfortable. View was spectacular. (I think we had 2nd floor) Steak was cooked to perfection. Staff is very polite. Only failure was the spa who lost my reservations for 2 massages I arranged on line. If you plan to schedule-do it over the phone. The hotel is located in the center of town and you are surrouned by pubs and stores-perfect for really getting to know the WONDERFUL people of Ireland.

Fantastic

We stayed in the plaza last weekend 7/8th oct. Our room was lovely and comfy, we had bailys waiting for us on arrival along with complimentary sparkling and still water. The bathroom products were wonderful and replenished on the second day of our stay. The accomodation staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough. I needed foam pillows (due to an allergy) unfortunately they didn't have any spare but were very apologetic and asked me the following morning had I a nice sleep.
The swimming poolm jaccuzi and steam room were lovely with soothing music playing. The piano bar was an experience great tunes shame about the singer!! Food was lovely. I thought the hotel should of had a smoking area, as it was awful standing outside in the rain. The music from the disco bar on the saturday night was a bit annoyin but we coped. It was great that the molten brown products were carried through out the hotel in showers and wash rooms.
I work in hospitality in a 5star resort, I thougth the plaza was great value for money and has very hard standards. It was very central and the staff were very accomodating. What more could one ask for!! Stay here its great.

Comfortable

In July we stayed at the Killarney Plaza Hotel because it was part of our CIE Tour. This has to be one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. It is gorgeous inside and out.

From the minute you walk into the lobby there is an air of luxury. It is beautiful. The rooms are gorgeous, as are all of the furnishings. I particularly loved the feather bed and lovely bedding. Even the bathroom is fancy with floor to ceiling marble, wood accents, and BIG fluffy towels. Our room was SMALL, and there wasn’t much space for our two suitcases. We had the typical amenities (tea/coffee, TV, hair dryer, in room safe, and iron/ironing board) plus it was air conditioned!!

The Killarney Plaza is located in the center of town. There are several shops and pubs in close proximity. The Killarney National Park is next door, and the Jaunting Cars are across the street. It is well worth taking a jaunting car into the National Park to see the wild life, lake and Ross Castle. We also took time to enjoy the hotel’s leisure facility, which included a small swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

We found that in the evening the bars/pubs were packed. If you don’t get there early, you will not get a seat to enjoy the music. We found it more comfortable at the Plaza’s Piano Bar. Though bar service was slow, the pianist is FABULOUS. I am just sorry that some lousy, rude parents brought their obnoxious, noisy children to the piano bar. Totally inconsiderate to everyone, including the bored children.

Killarney city is not one of my favorite cities, but we had a great experience.

Baggage Problems

from heaneman
The Plaza is beautifull. Rooms are excellent as is the leisure centre. However the Car park is too small and not policed ie non residents can park there as nobody checks your I.D. The trip from the car park to the reception is not a pretty one as you have to haul your luggage with you up about 12 steps as the elevator does not go directly to the reception area. This has to be seen to be believed !!! . The Food is fine but the pub attached called la parc is brillant, great pianist and magnificent Guinness, and believe me I would know my Guinness !!

Never again

from Sully38
We chose this hotel based on the fine reviews on Trip Advisor. We had to drag our bags from a sub-basement garage first to an elevator and the up a flight of stairs to the check-in when someone finally offered help. The bartender and concierge barely spoke English (their first language was not Gaelic either) and did not know how to run a tab or give us directions to the Ring of Kerry, just a few blocks away. I made the reservations online and the phone number is printed incorrectly on their form! When we found this out and informed our family of the correct phone number, my daughter called it and she was told we were not staying there. The windows are not thick enough to keep out the noise from the street and we were on the fifth floor. When we wrote to the managers of this hotel chain (Donohue Ring Hotels), we heard from an assistant but no manager ever contacted us. We stayed at 2 other hotels in Ireland and they were fabulous. Don't stay here!

Best of our trip

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Killarney Plaza in mid May. I read all the reviews and was impressed, but had the feeling it was too good to be true. Quite the contrary. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Killarney. The rooms are large and well appointed. The most impressive thing was the value. We stayed 3 nights and had a meal plan with Irish breakfast and two evening meals. I was particularly skeptical of the dinners. However, they were really quite good with a reasonalable selection and generous portions. Some of our best meals on the trip. The wait staff was very pleasant and professional. This was true throughout the hotel.
The fitness center is large with high quality equipment. The pool looked very nice although we didn't use it. Parking is free.
Allaround, a great experience and at a price that can't be beat.

Top Local Tips for Killarney

Wild West This was a lovely restaurant, located close to the hotel, take a left out the main hotel door and then take the next left which is a little up the street just opposite quills. Wild West is just down this street. It serves a wide variety of food from Steak to Seafood and Italian. Yum!

Fabulous Restaurant Chapter 40 telephone number 06471833. Don't bother with Gaby's Restaurant, used to be great, but has quality/service has declined while price continues to rise.

how to get the best rates always ring the hotel direct as the online booking facility is more expensive and sometimes inaccurate
