Historical Traveller Reviews of Castlerosse Hotel And Leisure Centre
The hotel is very overpriced for a 3 star hotel and does not have the services to warrant the rates it charges. That said it was full when we went with even a couple of weddings happening.
The rooms are all on one floor along one long corridor that winds and goes on for ever so you could be a good walk from reception, the rooms were nice enough, spacious and well furnished. One of our party did find ants in their bed and had to move rooms though.
The hotel has lovely views of the golf course and lake but is pretty much in the middle of no where so getting into Killarny has to be by car or taxi.
The bar in the hotel had a nice atmosphere and was open late and breakfast was good.
Just returned from Killarney and am astonished at the reviews that this hotel has been given. My experience was this is an amateur hotel run by amateur staff.
I had a terrible experience in the dining room. After waiting nearly an hour for my meal I had to send it back because my chicken was pink in the middle. The restaurant manager then informed me that she had spoken to the chef and stated that I was wrong and it wasn’t pink. Quite frankly she was downright rude! As well as that the waitresses spilled vegetables onto my husbands lap when serving us! Sloppy service indeed!
Overall the hotel is grubby looking and the service certainly isn’t anything to write home about. The bar staff barely grunted at us and the way they presented themselves in terms of the uniforms and cleanliness left a lot to be desired. With the abundance of hotels in the area I would definitely give this one a miss. Wouldn’t waste my money again. The only thing positive about it is the view.
its ok but better hotels in town.
we stayed for two nights, receptionist was friendly and welcoming, good conversation and helpful on things to do in Killarney. room was a good size with double and single bed in the room. strange layout of the room though. make sure to close curtains at night as the net curtains are see throw.no room service in the hotel only continental breakfast which is only 2 euro per person, no other room service, strange for a three star hotel, got up early both morning to have breakfast in the restaurant, what a view in the restaurant breath taking. Killarney is a beautiful town well worth a visit. we also had an evening meal with our package, i has four garlic mushrooms on my plate i know it was a starter but very small amount, main course was not great, breakfast was good. hotels never make scrambled eggs as good as you would at home. not a bad location. tight for parking, we found it hard to find a space when we came back saturday night. we were worried about the car because it was parked down by the tennis courts only space available. disappointed with accommadation staff never hoovered the room. enjoyed the pool and gym make sure to bring your own togs and the hotel do provide swimming hats. what a long corridor it a work out on its own.
Great Hotel and appartments
Stayed in the hotel apartments many times, great for families. Hotel is very family friendly
Stayed with my wife and two young kids and was disappointed. It was quite cold when we stayed yet there was no heat in the rooms. The breakfast was good and dinner was okay also.
Overall I felt that for the price we paid that it was poor value for money.
Best Family Hotel on Ring of Kerry - Self Catering Cottages at Castlerosse
My husband and I took Grandma, Grandpa, and our two kids to see the Ring of Kerry. We couldn't have done better for a place to stay than Castlerosse. The self catering cottages have two rooms with a queen and a single bed in each. Each room has it's own full bath. The living area is like a beautiful sun-room with curtains for evening privacy. The kitchen was nice with a washer/dryer included. There is an indoor pool to use. The restaurant and pub were great. The view of the lake from those were spectacular. The location was perfect. Most hotels in Killarney sit in a highly congested area of the N71. The Castlerosse sits two miles the other direction from town and is easy to get to. There is a kids club that is free to use. Since many other families use their 46 cottages there are plenty of kids for yours to meet and play with.
Great for kids at castlerosse
Just back from 2 night midweek stay at the Castlerosse Hotel. The hotel is really lovely & the staff are very friendly & helpful. The rooms are bright, clean & spacious enough. The breakfast is great with a choice of continental or a full irish. There is a great kids club in the hotel, i am very conscious of leaving the kids anywhere without me, but thankfully the hotel has thought this one out or maybe just by coincedence there is a lovely sitting area right outside the kids club where you can relax & have a drink while still keeping an eye on the children. There is also a great playground about 3mins away from the hotel which suits all ages, the town is also within walking distance. Tip for anyone with kids there is a drinks machine down beside the swimming pool & a goodies machine opposite swimming pool (in the golf club). Overall a great short break.
location location location
we stayed in the castleross hotel for a two night weekend, the location of this hotel is heavenly, the views from the dining room and the bar are splendid. when we arrived we were given a room quite a distance from reception and after complaining about the location of the room we were moved nearer to reception. the breakfast was good and the bar food and the dinner even better. the hotel makes children welcome and there is a pool and a childrens club during holidays times, we enjoyed our stay and would reccommend it to friends,
We stayed for a week in the self-catering accommodation. The cottages are very big with an enormous lounge with picture windows, two bedrooms each with a double and single bed and two bathrooms. The kitchen area is of acceptable size with all one could want for self-catering. We had two evening meals in the hotel and one in the bar. All the food was well cooked with a good choice on the menu and the view from the dining room was a decided bonus. The reception staff were very helpful - booking us into Riverdance for instance for no extra charge above the seat price. The situation is excellent, just on the edge of the national park with a pleasant 30-40 minute walk into Killarney. If flying to Ireland, we flew to Shannon from East Midlands, then we would recommend a hire car as the hotel is away from the town centre and other amenities although there is an excellent pool and fitness centre as part of the hotel.
Nice but I expected more
We stayed two nights at this hotel slightly outside of Killarney. It was OK. I mainly booked it as I wanted to allow a round of golf for my husband. It had plenty of parking and the grounds were very nice. I booked this again through Hotelclub.com. We had the last room - the furthest away from everything – about a 4 minute walk to the breakfast room. This did not really bother us. But the first night we found what we thought was blood stains on the bed spread. Very likely they were just washed stains that had not come out but he wasn’t happy so we asked for it to be changed. This got very confusing when they brought new sheets not a bedspread so we spent the first night without a cover and requested another one in the morning. The breakfast was very nice and the breakfast room looks out to the Lakes over the golf course. This wasn’t a very expensive hotel but for a “resort” I expected more. However, playing a round of golf was a disaster. The hired clubs were half left handed half right handed. No map or card to score.
Top Local Tips for Killarney

if you like traditional music go to the grand , if you like rock go to the grand , if you like disco go to the grand hotel
Must see attractions that are a few hours from Killarney
You must spend a day driving on the Ring of Kerry. Another good drive is to Cork. We saw the Fota Wildlife Park, Cobh Harbor and the Blarney Castle all in one day. Good villages to stop in for lunch or a pint is any with a "Tidy Town" sign as you enter the town. This means the town has won an award for keeping a clean and well maintained village. They are a treat to see and visit.
Brehon or Gleneagle
Brehon hotel is faboulous, and Gleneagle is also good but a little older. If you feel like splashing out the Great Southern is beautiful.
