Excellent Hotel

from Tom_G_Ire
Stayed in the New Park in June. Excellent place to stay. The only one complaint I have is there was a lot of noise from the hallway. This is being fussy though. Bar is very comfortable although we would recommend the "Left Bar" in the city near the castle. Breakfast was grand. The pool was also fine, nothing overly amazing but certainly serves its purpose as does the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.

All in all a lovely hotel, dont worry about the distance to the city, a taxi will cost you about €7.50, worth it considering what you get for your money.

Fantastic, will definitely return

stayed in the new park hotel last weekend, as part of a supervalu break. The hotel is absolutely lovely, really nice staff, lovely modern hotel and rooms. We had dinner as part of the deal and the food was really nice, service fantastic.

I disagree with previous comments that this hotel is a family hotel and not for couples. During our stay we only noticed mostly couples staying in the hotel. We did notice that in the restaurant at dinner time the hotel seated families with babies in a seperate area to adult diners, which we both thought was brilliant.

Breakfast was plentiful and loads of choice.

The hotel is a good 20 minutes outside of the town, but its a nice walk.

The only down side we saw to the hotel was the bar. It really isnt comfortable at all, its like an airport bar, very cold and with no atmosphere. The chairs and stools are not comfortable either. Also the price of food in the bar area is very pricy, we were going to have lunch there but decided to go down town for better value instead.

Other than this one aspect though we loved the hotel, we will definitely be going back.

Great bathrooms

This hotel was really very organised! The rooms are really nice, the bathrooms fab! The breakfast was great, had seperate menu for those who don't fancy the full irish breakfast and served pancakes and omlettes etc! Overall I had a great wkend stay ahere and would definately return!

attentive staff

I booked online and stayed one night at the Newpark. I was early for check-in but was offered my room and check-in process was very quick and smooth with helpful receptionist. The room was spacious and all in all very good value for money. The shower was excellent and the under floor heating in the bathroom a bonus. Check-out was also dealt with efficiently. Certainly can't complain about this stay, very enjoyable.

Family oriented, not good for fun-seekers

This is a Best Western hotel. Plain and simple. The rooms were great, the service was great, but there was certainly nothing outstanding about this hotel. A lot of older people and families with young children. My biggest complaint about this hotel is that it was a good 15-20 minute walk out of town, which made it very annoying to try and go out in the evening. Overall, the price matched the experience, and I would recommend this hotel to a family in a minute.

Not for the romantic

from emmak16
I found the Newpark hotel adequate for business. However, I would not book it for a romantic weekend away. The bar had very little atmosphere, overlit in some areas and underlit in others. Also, more importantly, the walls between the rooms and the corridors seemed wafer thin. I was woken on several occasions by the cleaning staff while trying to catch up on sleep during the day. On a positive note, the food was very good and the room was left clean and tidy every day. I also regret not having the time to attend the gym and pool as they looked very inviting.

Great For Families with Kids

from gringogeoff
My wife and I booked this hotel for 1 night and stayed an extra because we were so comfortable with our 1 1/2 year old girl. The hotel has a nice indoor pool, very clean and comfortable rooms and a good breakfast buffet. The staff was very friendly and helpful, even during a busy summer weekend which apparently often fill the hotel with wedding parties. It's just outside of town and definitely not so romantic, like the smaller in town hotels, but familes with young children will probably be quite pleased. We stayed there on a Saturday night for 180 Euros because all of Kilkenny was booked and remained Sunday for 99 because of the pool and how relaxed we felt there.

Very nice but crappy bar.

Really nice hotel, fairly basic but good. The only problem was that that the bar was really lacking atmosphere. Its badly designed and lacks that cosy irish pub feel. This seems to be a family hotel and we also notice alot of old couples.

Only spent an overnight visit at this hotel. It is undergoing renovations at present (we were there in late May 2004). The room was fine, but the making of the trip was the great staff and the restaurant. The food was fabulous and for the price reasonable. Like everything, you can put up with a lot if the staff are friendly and helpful and these people were. I can't remember the Maitre De's name but he was excellent. Well worth the money spent.

Pretty basic. But grand.

Top Local Tips for Kilkenny

The Grapevine Cafe, Kilkenny Great place to eat & drink & enjoy friends

our day trips from Kilkenny City While staying in Kilkenny City for 4 days, we drove out to see area attractions: Nicholas Mosse Pottery in Bennetsbridge; Jerpoint Abbey near Thomastown; Kells Priory (and Shirleys Pub) near Kells; Woodstock Gardens near lovely village of Inistioge; Duiske Abbey in Graiguenamanagh (greg-na-ma-na); St. Mullins Monastery near St. Mullins in Co. Carlow. I'm sure the Rock of Cashel in Cashel, Co. Tipperary could also be done as a day trip, but we relocated there as we were going on in that direction anyway.
