I read with interest the comments headed "watch this space" by a fellow reviewer below. Having read this review and also being a frequent guest at the Rivercourt Hotel, I watched very closely all the staff and the goings on throughout last weekend whilst I was there.
As usual, everything was just perfect, all the staff were as friendly as usual and we really enjoyed our stay once more, so I certainly can't agree with the reviewer below!!

Best service, food, location and staff - our stay at the Rivercourt would be har

Best for so many reasons - food, location, friendly staff, value for money, quality of hotel. We stay all over Ireland and it would be best to put the Rivercourt in top 3. I hear they have another hotel in the group - Lyrath Estate Hotel, no doubt if it is the same owner the standad will be top class.

I am a regular visitor to the Kilkenny River Court Hotel; it is a really good hotel with excellent food and service. Our last visit weekend 1st / 2nd April was as always very good, but there is definitely something happening at this hotel, the staff are not as happy or focused as they one ware they all seemed to be distracted, so perhaps it is worth watching this space in the future.

noisy, smoking room, power outages, a full parking lot and expensive

from kdicke
It was as if they wanted us to leave.

At check in we were warned of a wedding in the hotel and that it could get noisy. It did. People yelling and running down the hall outside our hotel room.

The room we were given was a smoking room. When I complained, they said they were fully booked and unable to change it. When I explained that I made my reservations 10 months in advance for a non smoking room, they didn't understand how that made a difference. It reminded me a little of the Seinfeld episode where the rental car agency knew how to take reservations, they just didn't know how to keep them.

The clock on the television was wrong and I could find no way to reset it. The alarm on the TV went off about an hour early because of this problem.

The power went out countless times. Each time, the TV would come on blaring no matter what setting it was on before the power outage. It woke me up a couple of times in the middle of the night.

The parking lot was full. We had to double park and leave the keys to our car at reception.

Breakfast was lousy. The worst we had in Ireland and that is no small feat. The Irish concentrate on their black and white puddings while drinking instant coffee. This place made instant coffee by the pot full. The eggs were cold, and the cheeses looked as if they had been on that tray for at least 2 to 3 days.

On the plus side, the bathroom was nice, the bed was comfortable and the courtyard had a nice view of the castle.

I would recommend you select another place to stay in Kilkenny city. Kilkenny has earned a well deserved popularity, I recommend visit and you stay somewhere other than Kilkenny River Court Hotel.

Lovley hotel, with charm and elegance

from runnerohioheart
We were looking for a B&B, but this turned up in the Visitor Center. What a great experience. The rooms were clean and bright, with luxurious linens and towles. the "full Irish" breakfast was superb. the stafff is first rate--kind, courteous, and simply "Irish".

We will definitely stay there again. It is right in the heart of town. Kilkenny Castle is out your window!! Try an excellent Italian dinner at Ruconni's. A little stuffy, but the service and food were unbelievable. Maybe they deserve to be stuffy....

I would rate this hotel easily as a four star!!!

Nice Hotel in Great Location!

from Vornado213
Drove into Kilkenny and was happy to see a large, clean, modern hotel available. The staff could not have been friendlier. We walked up and got a room for only 55 Euro each per night, which included a full breakfast. The room had one queen and two twin beds. The room and bathroom were clean, and included cable television. It was very quiet because all the rooms are set back away from the main road. As far as the location, it's right in the center of town and very safe. I wish I could have stayed longer. I'd have no hesitation recommending this hotel to my friends or business associates. Elegant entrance and friendly. They even have a full gym and lap pool. We also took a little time to go for a massage in their spa. Yes, I would go again without hesitation.

Not The Best

from EWLTexas
My husband and I stayed at the Kilkenny River Court hotel for one night in October, 2005. Our difficulties started before we arrived when we were unable to obtain an E-mail confirmation of a date change. It took a long distance phone call to make sure the hotel received the information about the change.

Upon arrival we discovered that this is a large hotel catering to large groups such as tours and conferences. The night we were stayed, one or two weddings were going on. There was no parking in front of the hotel and no one to take our car. As a result we had to drive to a parking place a five minute walk away. The hotel was very noisy with loud guests in the hallway outside our room until as late as 4:30 in the morning. Our room itself was small, hot and not the twin bedded room on our confirmation (at more than 225 euros a night). The desk was indifferent to our request to be moved. All in all, not the best place to stay and our only disappointment in a two week trip in Ireland!

checked your beds

I have recently just returned home from a stay at the kilkenny river court i thought i was going down for what was going to be a relaxing weekend instead i returned home more stressed than when i got there.
Firstly there was an awful lot of noise in the hotel to which you could not find anybody on reception to deal with the disturbance.
Secondly id advise anybody staying there to check their bedsheets before sleeping on them as the next day we pulled back ours to find blood and body hairs all over the protector and matress, we left the room the next morning but returned back to tell the maid only to find her making the bed with the same sheets we had just slept on. We then asked the manager and he said these protectors where not changed after every guest!!!
In my opinion and of my friends it was horrendous and would never return.

I stayed overnight at the Kilkenny River Court and cannot praise the staff enough.

The hotel room was beautiful with a view of the river. The room was impeccably clean and well appointed. The staff was outstanding and extremely helpful.

Upon arrival my car was parked by the valet and luggage whisked to my room. Service that I've come to expect from better hotels.

I wasn't crazy about Kilkenny, the town nearly shut down by 6pm on the weeknight I spent there. The staff allowed me to keep my vehicle in the lot after checkout so that I could tour the grounds of the Kilkenny Castle.

I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Kilkenny.

Very Nice, not so child friendly

from A TripAdvisor Member
The River Court is a wonderful and beautiful location. Parking is a bit tough, although Paddy was so helpful to my family! He moved his car and allowed us to park in the spot - problem solved! The hotel restuarant would not allow us to bring our son to dinner after 7pm (he is 11 months old) so that was a bit difficult after a long day of touring but all in all the hotel was lovely. I am not sure I would recommend this to families with small children. While I know it is common for children to not be allowed after a certain time, this was the only location which enforced the policy.

Top Local Tips for Kilkenny

Don't always look at price. Don't always look at the price of Accomodation, look at the location, some hotels charge less because they are outside the city, could be more expencive getting taxi's all the time. Location is the Key

Historical Kilkenny Take time to visit the outline vilages and towns, which are full of historical sites and church's. These are all along the river as it flows south to the sea.

Great Dining We had a good dinner at the White Oak Restaurant.
