A haven of relaxation but someflaws

from Ynca
Went to Inchydoney for a package in August and had three days of bliss. The salt water pool facilities are wonderful, so much more so than the usual chlorinated pools that give you a headache. The spa staff are helpful and accommodating to fit in treatments as and when guests want them and seem to have incredible flexibility in this regard. So refreshing when you're coming from Dublin, where every spa or salon treatment seems to have to be booked weeks or months in advance. Even though there had been an adminstrative mess-up and our treatments hadn't been booked in advance, this was easily sorted. The relaxation room was a haven between treatments-you just lost all track of time until the next therapist came along to whisk you away for more bliss. The rooms are comfortable if a little dated now, and the restaurant food is excellent and staff very friendly and efficient. Proximity to the beach is also a wonderful plus.

The only problems we had were room service breakfast arriving with burnt toast once or twice, and our bill on leaving being completely wrong and out by hundreds of Euro. We also had a nasty receptionist revoke the late checkout we had been promised earlier by another receptionise, which forced us to pack in a rushed manner. That tainted our visit a little, but overall we had a fantastic, relaxing time.

The exterior of the lodge could also do with a makeover as it's showing the years now, but not in a good way. Needs creepers or something to take the huge building in the middle of nowhere look off it.

They should also do something about weddings -several times we were on our way to the spa, robe-clad and generally chilled out looking, only to get caught up in crowds of wedding guests and even the bridal party themselves, as the corridor to the spa passes the function rooms. A little strange for all concerned, i would say!

Food amazing; location out of this world.

Well we stayed in Inchydoney for 4 nights (at great expense !). The staff were extremely friendly and we were greeted personally by the hotel manager.

The room was absolutely huge - more like a suite and was very luxurious. The staff come and turn down your bed at night and leave chocolates (however be warned they'll take them again the next morning if you haven't eaten them !)

The restaurant food is absolutely gorgeous - the chef is a genius. I had the most delicious beef dish I had ever tasted one night followed by the most amazing lamb dish another night. The service in the restaurant was swift and organised. If you have a window seat you can watch the sunset over the beautiful Inchydoney beach; very romantic.

The spa is ok - a bit clinical and the relaxation room is a bit of a disappointment. It's more like a cramped waiting room than a relaxation room. Though you can have your fill of fresh juice and fresh fruit which is a nice touch.

The spa staff are very nice and friendly.

However myself and my husband booked into a Rasul treatment (mud chamber with steam) and found that the lady dealing with us was bit invasive (in a nice way). We didn't get much privacy as she kept popping in during the treatment when there was no need and you're not wearing too much so it's a tad embarrassing !

On the up side the masseuses are fully qualified in sports massage and extremely professional.

Another point to note on the spa - children are allowed into the spa pool for 4 hours a day so you need to book your spa times around this. I was surprised at this as it's not mentioned in the brochure anywhere.

Service in the residents lounge is a little slow - if you ordered a drink it wasn't unusual to be waiting up to 15 minutes for it or to have to ask twice. But I think this is more to do with the laid back attitude of the hotel overall.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely return - I still think about those amazing restaurant meals every now and then !

A glorious week at Inchydoney Lodge hotel!

from pinknic2007
We spent a glorious full week in Inchydoney in June of this year.
We found the staff to be more than helpful and extremely friendly people. Our room was kept spotless every day and the turn down service was great- little butlers chocolates on the bed each night and the weather forecast for the next day!

The only part I would not recommend is the restaurant as the service was very slow on 2 nights. We decided after that to eat in the bar downstairs and this was perfect! Their sirloin steak arrives out on a sizzling platter with garlic butter and was delicious every time. Their crab claws are also to die for. The bar had a much more relaxed feel than the restaurant upstairs.

We had 18 treatments each over the week in the Spa and most were great. Their 30 min relaxation massage was excellent. Wasnt too keen on the balneotherapy baths.

Overall, Inchydoney is a beautiful spot when you consider the views you have from your room over the beach. There really was nothing like opening the curtains in the morning to ths site of the beach on front. Plus the breakfasts were delicious and huge!

The outside of the hotel was very shabby and in bad need of some painting. Reception lacked atmosphere. No personal welcome..staff did not seem to enjoy their jobs. Room OK. The relaxation room in the spa was a joke. Magazines scattered all over, empty cups, very untidy. The therapists call guests named from the door and shouted the treatment they were having..somewhat like a visit to the doctors. The room was freezing cold and not at all relaxing. The pool was very dirty and the sauna was a total disgrace with wood peeling off the bench.
If this was not bad enough had dinner in the bar. My steak sandwich was served freezing cold…I returned it to the bar manger, he did not apologies and sulky took it back to the kitchen. The sandwich returned a few minutes later. The sandwich was reheated in the microwave with the salad filling…. soggy lettuce..terrible.
This hotel is overpriced, dirty and unfriendly.

very pleased with the hotel

found everything about this hotel very nice, found that staff couldn't have been anymore helpful and will definitely be going back

Totally loved the Lodge and Spa!!

My finace and I have just returned from a weekend at the Logde and Spa, which we thought was fantastic and so relaxing! We were over visiting family so decided to give this hotel a try after hearing many good comments. We arrived with some family members who were not staying here, who waited for us in Dunes Pub while we checked in, as we were planning to have some lunch together. Check in was very easy and the staff very friendly. It was arranged for our bags to be taken up to our room so we could go straight in to eat. The room was fantastic. Very spacious with a fab sea view!! And there were lots of goodies (bath salts) etc in the bathroom for us to use. We used the residents bar one evening. There were no staff serving, so we popped down to reception. Someone was sent straight up to us and we got a free drink for our five minute wait. Breakfast was also very nice. We had a table looking out to sea. We had a lovely irish breakfast (buffet), but there were cereals, pastries etc. Service was excellent and staff very friendly. Check out was also very easy. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to try out any of the spa treatments, but we are planning our next trip next already so they are on our to-do list!
All in all a fantastic hotel and cannot wait to return!!

veryvery disappointing

Stayed in this hotel for a few nights in early April. I was really looking forward to this break as I had heard so many comments on same. The hotel is situated in a beautiful location and the weather was really good, considering all the cold weather we had been having. I was not very impressed as I entered the lobby of the Hotel. There was no nice welcoming atmosphere in same. The staff at the reception desk did nothing to add to the place. The lady we spoke to was an English girl, who spoke quite badly for a girl in her position, and seemed to get irrated when we did not understand what she was saying.
On another occasion during our stay we met a tall gentleman, some kind of Manager I presume, who was not a bit helpful and seemed to be full of himself. The service in the Restaurant for both Dinner and Breakfast was okay, although most of the staff had very little English and did not understand us, and those that could speak English did not seem to want to talk to their guests atall. The Bedrooms were okay and so was the Residents Lounge, but every time we went to sit in the Lounge all the staff seem to do was stick as Menu in our face, and were not a bit impressed when we did not want to order.
I will not be returning to this Hotel again. It is the worst value for money that we have found in our travels throughout Ireland and we have stayed in quite a few places over the years.

Disappointing - minor improvements needed to get value for money

We stayed here just this weekend, St. Patricks weekend - we stayed in the lodge. The biggest downfall, in my opinion, is the Residents lounge. I had been looking forward to open fires, comfy chairs and a big glass of red wine, this is what you get in many good Irish hotels...instead I got a dark, cold, empty room, also we arrived on a Friday and the only newspaper in the room was Wednesday's. I was told the fire wasn't working as the room had recently been renovated - this didn't impress me and the room was always empty, I can only assume this is because it was so cold and unwelcoming. This meant we spent a lot of our time in the village of Clonakilty which is fantastic, but I didn't pay euro 310 per night to not spend time in the hotel. The Dunes bar is souless, the food is expensive and the service is unprofessional. The Gulfstream restaurant was okay, the meal was nice and the service friendly although the waiters had not been trained as waiters, they were students. I think a 10% service charge on the overall bill is not deserved. I will not be returning to Incydoney in a hurry. I didn't feel exclusive or pampered.

Great for families

I've spent a week at this hotel the past two years and it is an excellent choice for those with small children - I didn't stay in the hotel itself but in the self catering apartments which are right next door. This means you can use the lovely spa, great pool, get help/advice from staff but also have freedom you need to feed/entertain kids. The apartments are very well appointed and all identical (as far as I could see). Last time we went (for a large family reunion) we had four apartments together in a block which worked well. Ask for apts as far away from the hotel as poss as they have the best view and the most sun. I wouldn't rate the restaurant - too formal and fussy food. Also too many foreign staff with little or no English.

Superb location, terrible restaurant service

from smudgesmum
This hotel is in a superb location, nice rooms, but the restaurant service is terrible. There are lots of staff but no visible supervision and it takes forever to get your food, although it is very good when it does arrive. Also, staff in the spa were not very friendly or welcoming, and, having decided to have treatments, we changed our mind due to this attitude. Found reception staff to be very helpful and understanding. One porter definitely needs advice from his best friend!!! Would visit again when we can afford it - hopefully management reads this review.

Top Local Tips for Inchydoney

Dining I would highly recommend eating at Richy's Bistro in the town centre. The food was excellent and was quiet but gets very busy on the weekend.

Dinner I would recommend that you avoid the high prices for dinner at the hotel and eat at Richy's Bistro in the centre of town. The food there is great and very reasonable.
