Historical Traveller Reviews of ynch Best Western West County Hotel
Thoroughly enjoyable stay
from FionaV25I stayed at the West County last month with my boyfriend and we found none of the problems that have been mentioned on other reviews. From the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out, the staff in this hotel did every thing possible to ensure we enjoyed our stay. They were very friendly, helpful and polite, and we had quite the laugh one night in the bar with the guest liason. Our room wasn't large, but it was a perfect size for the two of us and it was spotlessly clean.
I'm sorry that other reviewers had such a bad experience because ours was anything but.
Great Weekend
from Rayk1979When we arrived at reception the receptionist immediately apologised for the disruption caused by the refurbishment, which I hadn't even noticed. Our room was obviously part of the refurbishment as it was clean as a whistle and everything in it was pristine. Breakfast every morning was a treat...eat all you want of cerals, fruit and traditional irish fare.
The leisure centre which has also been refurbished is a good size with a large pool.
Overall our stay was very enjoyable and we will definitely be back.

from A TripAdvisor MemberWe booked this hotel for 1 night while on a driving trip around south/south west Ireland. It was my girlfriends first time in Ireland.( I am from Tipperary)
We enjoyed this hotel so much we even stayed an extra night.
It is a great base if you are travelling around Co. Clare and on to Galway.
The room we had was tidy and modern, the food and drink was great and cheap, the staff were friendly and helpful.
The pool and gym were great.
If this hotel has come down so much since we visited then it is sad.
We had as nice time there.
Umm!!! Basic and grubby.
from TweekieWe picked up the car at Shannon airport and found Ennis easily - a bypass being built so traffic build up is inevitable. We pulled up and parked went into reception. Had a sort of welcome - a smile and where the room was located. On arrival in our non-smoking room we were hit with the smell of cigarettes. I think a small no smoking sticker had been put on the door for our arrival!!!! That evening we had to go out and buy an air freshner as the hotel did not have one - that's how bad the smell was. We were in an old room and it showed. Lots of the rooms had already been refurbished - they are working on it at the moment - workmen all over the place. The leisure area was due to reopen on the 2nd June. This looked great
Breakfast - we really enjoyed this. If you go before 8.30am you get all the coach parties and it is very busy. Go about 9 (breakfast is served until 11.30) and you have individual service. Help yourself to juices, cereals, etc and the cooked breakfast. Eat as much as you want. We filled up here to save on lunch!
The place just needs a REALLY really good clean - the bedrooms, the Irish pub area - all over. The staff were friendly to us but you could tell they had had enough of some guests! Lots of Americans, French and Germans stopping here and noisy cabin crews!!!
We wouldn't go back to this hotel again as there are so many all over the area that looked far superior. Give it a miss if you can find somewhere else.
t bother
from ScubaDiveMasterstaff
from fosheaService lacking, hygienically challenged, no warm Irish welcome here!
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe cooked buffet breakfast was generally cold if available at all. Staff were not tending to their guests needs adequately, quite often we had to go searching for someone to bring tea/coffee/toast etc.
The swimming pool was extremely heavily chlorinated and swimming caps are required to be worn, charging the guests 3.50euro for the privilege.
Each guest is also charged 4.00euro extra during what are termed peak times for the use of leisure facilities. Lockers are NOT secure, if guests wish to secure their belongings a padlock must ALSO be purchased.
The shower area and toilets were not clean, so much so that we showered in our own room.
The public toilets within the hotel, though supposedly checked every 60 minutes smelled disgusting, in fact the odour could be smelled from the corridor and bar area.
There was much misleading information regarding the use of leisure facilities, telephone numbers and the walking distance from Ennis town centre.
The rooms and en-suite facilities were fine however, as was the evening meal in the County Grill.
Go expecting 2* quality/service at best...
Tops

OK Hotel, High Price
from Elleor126Top Local Tips for Ennis
Beautiful Ennis We found Ennis the most charming town we visited in our Ireland trip - the scale is beautiful, the streets are lively, and the atmosphere friendly and welcoming. We couldn't recommend it more; it's a bit of old Ireland without feeling too touristy.
Where to go Knox's pub and restaurant is great for food and music. The pub has a late bar at the weekends and I would stay there rather than go to the queen's nighclub which is not great to say the least. Its just jammed on Saturday night's and is dirty and the drinks are expensive. It's 10 Euro to get in. O'Halloran's is also a great place to go drinking.
Nightlife in Ennis We were in Ennis for a weekend and the pubs at night just came alive. The food was extremely good and reasonable and the lively pubs with live irish music was great fun.
