Top Local Tips for Dublin

ATM We didn't get Euros in the USA. We waited until we got to the airport in Dublin and then went to the ATM and got Euros. Other than the exchange rate fee (ours was 1%), the only other fee was the $1.00 ATM fee our bank charged. One note about ATMs. Over there, the ATMs don't recognize checking accounts, only savings accounts. So, when you withdraw money from the ATM, the money will be taken out of your savings account, not your checking account. I was glad my bank told me about that before we left. Also, make sure you contact your credit card company before you leave and let them know you are traveling so they won't decline any of your purchases.

Convenient base outside Dublin If you are touring by car, avoid Dublin's traffic by staying outside the city and travelling in by public transport. I recommend staying in Bray (perhaps at the Old Rectory B&B) and travelling into Dublin by the DART rapid transit railway.
