Historical Traveller Reviews of The Regency Airport Hotel
Excellent hotel for the price and location
from purr_woof
After reading the reviews on this site I was nervous about booking this hotel, but I am glad I did. I booked directly with the hotels website as this was the cheapest at £33 per night, not per person like some websites. I booked a twin bedded room which had two single beds, there was also two extra pillows and blanket in the wardrobe. There was a good size bathroom with plenty of light. The staff were very friendly.
My only complaint about the hotel was the directions on the website, it tells you to turn left at traffic lights at Whitehall Church but the problem is the churchs don't have names infront of them so we got completely lost. In the end we had to pay a taxi to drive there and we followed.
I personally feel every inch of the hotel was clean and that some people expect to much, in our room there was two chairs that could have done with a coat of varnish but it did not take away from the comfort. The beds were very comfortable and the room was a lovely temperature and windows could be opened. Our room had a view overlooking a stadium and city centre. We stayed for one night and our room number was 417.

Good Hotel

After reading some of the reports, we went fearfully to the Regency Hotel. I was however pleasantly surprised, the staff were helpful, the rooms were excellent, the food was good and while we did have to travel in the city centre by bus or taxis this did not cause us any problems.
I will certainly be stopping in the Regency on my next visit - it was a bargain.

Avoid if possible

Only stay here if you want a trip back in time. Most of the hotel has a retro 70s look to the rooms and decor in general. The more recently refurished part of it is updated to have a more 80s look. To cap it off the whole building (which looks like 3 or 4 buildings stuck together Lego style) is painted a shade of pinky/orange outside. There are some rooms with good views of Dublin and the surrounding mountains but there are also ones, like the one I stayed in have views of building sites. The floorboards and lifts creak. There isnt a direct staircase from the 4th floor down to the ground floor. You need to walk down and around 4 separate staircases to get down. There seems to be wedding receptions or the like most nights in the function room. These can be very loud so I would think staying in a room in the vicinity of it would be noisy. The bed was the narrowest hotel bed I have ever stayed in and its look matched the 70s feel of its surroundings. A similar thing could be said of the bathroom. The three main pieces in the bathroom - bath, toilet and basin were stuck together. Luckily I am not that tall as anyone 6 feet tall would be hitting their head on the ceiling when taking a shower. The bedroom was a decent enough size but you want to spend as little time in it as possible as the look of it made your head hurt. Breakfast is good enough although they only provide plates slightly bigger than a saucer or side plate. Be warned as well that although its called the Regency Airport it is not at the airport. It is in the general area of the airport, in that it is in North Dublin, but a taxi would still be needed if you want to get to the airport. In fact I would think its closer to the city centre than the airport. The hotel has an RAC 3 star plaque outside. How it got this is beyond comprehension. Avoid
Good for Croke Park
from Joysafina
This is a basic 3* hotel. It's a good place if you are going to Croke Park but if you are looking for a place while visiting Dublin - there are many nicer, more convenient, better valued hotels. The room was standard - nearly needing a renovation, the service was okay (they did misplace our bags for awhile), but the breakfast was very good. By the way, it's not that close to the airport - still a good 20-30 min by bus to it. I think it's on the expensive side for it's quality. If you want a hotel to be close to the airport - this isn't it.

I recently met up with some friend from university and had the misfortune to book this hole/pit. Fortunately meeting up with my friends did improve matters but I really wouldn't recommend entering this place, never mind staying.
I can only think the last two reviews are from people who have entered details for the wrong hotel! or have been given money to do so - yes its that bad.

Good value for money

I was over in Ireland for business purposes for 3 months. During thta time i stayed in the Regency hotel half a dozen times. I must admit that the staff are not too friendly but conversly they are not rude. Although I booked a single room most of the time i got twin room instead which was great as they were more spacious. The beds were okay and the bathroom was clean. Furthermore the location is good as you can easily catch a bus to the city centre. Overall I am satisfied with my visits to the Regency hotel
Perfect Stop for a one night business trip
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed in this hotel on a business trip. I got an unbelivably good price and found the staff very friendly. The rooms were adequate (reflected in price). The breakfast was gorgeous - evertyhing was timely - check in and check out very fast. I would stay in this hotel if on business again.
A total flea pit

Having had a lovely week touring Ireland, to end such a wonderful trip in a place like this was a tragedy.
As you can probably tell from these reviews people either loved or hated their stay. Well if your the kind of person who looks for a hotel with severely damp rooms, light fittings hanging by their electrical cords, soiled bed linen, stained and damaged furniture, excessive noise, then this is the hotel for you.
This hotel is a nightmare.

a kip alright
from A TripAdvisor Member
In America we call such places a "dump" or a "dive" or as one person here calls it, a "kip" and that is exactly what it is.
I got stuck with a phone bill yet never once used the phone being I could not dial out. The "bed and breakfast" thing is extra money (I opted to go to a nearby store and buy food to eat). The disabled room I was supposed to have consisted of one very small grab bar inside of the bathtub.
Futhermore, it was noisy and in my travels during my travels in Ireland I heard many stories of how others had been robbed during their stay, "everything, even the person's reading glasses" as well as various comments about the the food at the hotel. I ate there one time and the food was delivered to my table in about 2 minutes (how long had it being laying around?). I was sick the next day.
It was a lot of money for a nightmare and I'd say find another place to stay in Dublin. This "kip" is not cheap either btw. I noted that the prices being quoted the day I left were 100 Euros more than what I had paid for one night.

First of all, I have to agree with most of the critiques given by other reviewers who gave this hotel two or less stars. This hotel is of 1 star quality, at best. What 3-5 star hotel has visible stains on their floor and chairs, old furniture, and broken glass windows (a hazard). Further, the staff is extremely unfriendly, especially if you don't particularly resemble them. Racist may be too strong of a word, but is an appropriate portrayal of their behavior - or lack thereof. We received no welcome, no smile, barely eye contact, and very direct yes/no answers. We figured that both of the receptionists and a supervisor-type individual were all just having a bad day, so we didn't take it personal until we sat in the lobby and watched them immediately greet other guests with warm smiles, appropriate customer service and a blatant disregard for our feelings. Unfortunately, we couldn't check out because there weren't other options, so we spent the remainder of our stay being ignored by the staff -- except for the cleaning staff. They were friendly. Go Figure! Here's a tip for the hotel: Why not just put a sign outside stating exactly who you want to stay at your hotel instead of taking hard-earned dollars that you don't deserve from people you obviously don't want in your hotel, only to mistreat them. It's ridiculous, not to mention illegal. Further, its amazing how people that work in these customer service/hospitality jobs have absolutely no clue about real business. Very successful organizations rarely care about the nationality, race, or religion of their customers, because at the end of the day, they realize its the revenue that we generate that can make or break their business. Perhaps, Regency will revisit business 101 and get rid of those individuals that can't seperate personal ignorance from busines at least long enough to smile at their customers. Unless you like being virtually ignored, stay far away from this low-tel.

doing family tree ideal location for doing your family tree the hotel is not far from the registar office got loads of information going back to get some more
Brilliant The bus drivers are really helpful
Dublin sightseeing tours We found the Dublin sightseeing bus tour (green & cream buses) to be very good value & an excellent way to find where things are located. It is a "hop on, hop off" bus to enable you to visit the attractions you want to.There is also discounts given to various attractions when you purchase your tickets. The Irish drivers give an entertaining live commentary on all tours.

We found the reception staff helpful, the room was clean and the bed comfy.Yes the hotel is in need of some cosmetic work, but the notices around the hotel let you know that this is in progress, although there was no noise or problem from workmen. The one bar meal we had was good, and the prices in line with everything else.
Easy access into Dublin on frequent buses.
