We stayed in the Morgan on three occasions, the first two times we stayed we enjoyed it but yesterday we booked into the Morgan suite and we were very dissapointed, the room seemed to be very shabby, the T.V didn't work very well but the most annoying thing was the fact that the room was like sitting in a oven, and the windows did't open, they badly need air conditioning, It cost 350 euro and was defiently not worth it. I will never stay in the Morgan again

Great Weekend upgrade if you can.

from LieslTyne_Wear
Stayed in this hotel when we went to see U2 at Croke Park.
We upgraded to the Morgan Suite which is the best room in the hotel. It cost us a small fortune but well worth it.
The room was set over two floors with the bedroom upstairs. Although the room had been well used over the years it was no worse than the normal wear you would expect. It was spacious with modern furnishings including comfortable chairs and a large table. It was also clean and tidy and my only gripe would be the sink in the downstairs toilet was blocked.
We always had breakfast in our room and this always arrived at our chosen time delivered by friendly staff.

The rooms are set above a night club but the music was always shut off at 2am. I would say that if you are staying in Temple Bar you will get noise at any of the hotels so this one wasnt any different. If you want peace and quiet stay on the outskirts of Dublin.
With 80,000+ U2 fans in Dublin that weekend there was no way it was going to be quiet anyway.

Never saw the standard room so cant comment on that but overall I would say it was a great place to stay.

Nasty hotel, inflated price

from A TripAdvisor Member
The photos in the brochure look great, but no expense has been skimped. The furniture is of the cheapest kind, bought for looks, rather than quality, and is already very shabby. In the small shower room the grout is uneven and discoloured.

The standard of everything is like a Campanile that's past its sell by date, but at twice the price.

And you have to endure loud trance music at breakfast.

Best avoided

Really really awful Hotel - Do not stay here

from kangaroo2
Let me preface this by saying that I travel heaps and have stayed in heaps of 2, 3, 4 and 5 star hotels all around the world for both work and leisure and this would have to be the most over-rated place - and probably one of the worst I've ever stayed in when it comes to value for money and service. Don't be deceived by the pictures on the website either - a misrepresentation by far. My sister and I just had a long weekend in Dublin. We were given the room above the hotel entrance facing the street, so needless to say was extremely noisy - this despite asking for a quiet room (I had been to Dublin before so knew the Temple Bar area was noisy, but we had to be central because my sister has trouble walking long distances). The room was TINY and all the furniture either chipped, stained, cracked or wouldn't open. The curtains had filthy large black marks on them. The shower room was in appallingly bad condition - chipped tiles, dirty marks on the wall and NO hot water for a shower - just barely warm. No spare toilet paper when we ran out. It was quite cool when we were there - but the heater in the room didn't work and there were no spare blankets for the beds. The CD player wouldn't open and thus didn't work; there was apparently Sky on the television, but we were advised that it was not connected. BBC1 and 2 weren't working either. The drawers to the main sideboard would not open and had to be forced to get access to the room service and other menus thus pulling the table with it!!! No hairdryer connections in the bathroom wall. 3 tiny tubes which constituted toiletries. The corridors were so dark and dingy that you needed to wait until your eyes adjusted to the lack of light. Staff were snooty and incompetent. That said, the bar was OK for cocktails, the music and DJ good (although the service appallingly slow). So you might come to The Morgan for a drink - but even then they stuffed up our bill and put 40 euros on our room bill for bar expenses which didn't belong to us. All in all - stay somewhere else. The Morgan is a COMPLETE waste of money.

this place sucks

stayedn there 2 nights this past week with my brother. Worst hotel ever the staff is obnoxious the rooms are shabby and the furniture is falling apart.. not to mention worst of all when we checked in our room stunk like pot. Avoid this hotel at all costs. I would rather stay in a Hostel or sleep in a cardboard box then stay here.

Really Really Bad

from MaartyO
Avoid this hotel at all cost. Stayed there for 4 nights. Was very unhappy with the hotel and the attitude of the staff. Wake-up calls where never on time. Up to an hour late! The staff did not know how the phone system worked. It took 30 minutes to retrive a voice mail message from the answering service. House keeping did not replace the toilet paper when it ran out. And they never cleaned the used coffee cups and glasses. Had to climb over the bed to reach the sitting area of the room. This hotel is a real disaster and you should avoid it at all cost.

Very disappointing

My boyfriend and I both love Dublin and particularly wanted to be in the Temple Far area. The Morgan seemed quite expensive but looking at the photos on their website even the standard room looked fantastic so I booked a couple of nights. The reception, bar, corridors, etc, were fine - but when we opened the door to the room, our jaws dropped in amazement, you couldn't swing a cat, and it was very shaby in design, decoration and cleanliness. A large full length mirror was just propped up against a wall, taking up valuable space, tiles in the bathroom were chipped/missing particularly at the bottom of the shower, the carpet did not look like it had been vacuumed and there was a large dirty mark at the top of the curtains. There is also work going on directly at the back of the hotel, which did was very noisy at times, especially as the window did not fit in it's frame properly reducing its soundproofing!

The staff were quite snooty, not warm and welcoming - no "Hellos" or "Goodbyes" as we came and went. We were messed around when we first arrived waiting for our room. Instead of being informed to return when the room was ready we were kept being told.... 10 more minutes, oh, another half an hour.

The best part of the experience at the Morgan was the breakfast which was lovely and fresh.

Overall however, not value for money.

Very afforable - nice staff -- great location!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Was a bit wary after reading negative reviews, but had a perfectly lovely stay here for a long weekend with friends. Staff was extremely helpful and nice (even pointing us to a food vendor upon returning at 4am). Room was small but clean - bathroom relatively spacious. Location is perfect! Yes, it is noisy on the street side at night, but a few earplugs solved everything. Only inconveniences: our bathroom vent must have cycled through a smoking room, there's no outlet for a hair dryer in the bathroom, and the bathroom lighting could be better -- all very minor complaints. Would definitely stay here again!

My wife and I have just spent an amazing weekend in Dublin this was a 60th birthday present from my wife . I had read some of the reviews of the Morgan prior to going but can now add my thoughts ,the location is perfect, our room very comfortable , and the staff second to none, some of the friendliest people we have come across, and this from two well travelled people. We will certainly be returning!

t believe the bad reviews!

from fabricoffolly
Spent a wonderful, relaxing 3 nights at The Morgan in mid August. Had read the reviews on Trip Advisor prior to booking and was a bit concerned but decided to take a gamble. Managed to find heavily discounted rate by booking the a week in advance through Lastminute.
Found the staff courteous and helpful, the rooms well-appointed and the breakfast in bed a real treat!
Yes, the lift is small and the corridors are dimly lit but if that's enough to spoil your stay then frankly you need to lighten up (no pun intended).
Maybe I'd feel differently if I'd paid the full whack, but at the discounted rate it was worth every penny.
All in all, a great hotel in a great location!

What was all the fuss about?

from A TripAdvisor Member
Was horrified when read some of the reviews and would have changed the booking if it hadn't been a package and already paid for. We were very wary about what we would find but were very pleasantly surprised. The rooms are funkily furnished and very clean. Yes, if you are on the Fleet Street side of the hotel it will be noisy as we found out, but what else do you expect in the equivalent of Faliraki in Dublin? We were moved to a quieter room with no fuss for our second night. We found the staff helpful and friendly but not over familiar. Would stay again but on the quiet side of the hotel.
