Historical Traveller Reviews of Russell Court Hotel
Noisy and tacky
from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed here for 5 days in August 04 - never again. We asked for a quiet room and were given 301 on the third floor, which is actually a suite. Never stay here of Thursday,Friday or Saturday as there is live, very loud music in the beer garden at the rear of the hotel untill 3 am- its a hotel speciality. The room was furnished with junkshop repro cast offs and the springs stuck out of the matress narowly missing causing my wife serious injury. We complained and were moved to room 40 . Slighltly better but the tiles around the bath were cracked and dirty , the hot water bath tap head kept falling off, wallpaper was peeling off the wall and we had a view of the inside of a WC on the roof of the building opposite. The carpets on the staircase were threadbare and a number of banister rails were broken.
The public areas down stairs were quite presentable, the staff friendly and the breakfast on the greasy side but adequate.
This hotel has 2 night clubs as well as a large beer garden and markets itself locally for weddings and functions. The accommodation is a poor after thought.
first time to dublin and ireland
from kojonup
After travelling 38 hours to get to dublin from perth western australia we were very tired. So when we arrived at the Russell court on 22nd april 2004 we were very impressed with the look of the hotel and our room was huge. The staff we very friendly and the breakfast was great. The room was also very clean. The only problem that we had and I might add if we were between the age of 17 to 30 years of age and not tired from just a long trip we may not have minded that there was a night club in the hotel which the music was so loud kept us from being able to sleep. We sent 2 nights there. I do reckon that it is not a hotel for people who don't like noise, other wise it was wonderful and very central.
lovely hotel

A group of 6 of us needed somewhere central to stay, within walking distance of Temple Bar and the shopping areas. We could not have wished for better than the Russell Court hotel. The rooms were spacious, clean and well-furnished. The staff were polite and helpful. Overall, the atmosphere was welcoming. We are already planning our next trip and will definitely use this hotel again.
s 40th weekend - Russell Court
from A TripAdvisor Member
We came here for my husband's 40th birthday weekend visiting my mum's hometown of Dublin, left the kids at home with their grandparents. I read the reviews so was armed with some interesting info. I requested a top floor room but was told they were fully booked. We did however, get a rear room on the 1st floor, DIRECTLY overlooking the outside bar/club area. The room was clean but ready for the refurbishments taking place, nice 4 poster bed. Wobbly toilet, seal around bath mouldy and needing replacing. The staff were friendly enough but the receptionists were, to say the least, miserable. We had a 1 hour wait for an iron, as no records are kept of which rooms have them. Bar staff on a saturday night are courteous and friendly, except one girl seemed to serve only the blokes, she glanced at me then ignored me to serve 2 fellas who had arrived at the bar after me, it was only when my husband stepped in that we got served. Very busy on Saturday night but the great atmosphere made for a good night in the bar. Not that noisy really in the rear rooms, didn't stop us getting a good night's sleep anyway! Breakfast great quality, plenty of choice, fresh cooked and delicious. All in all, good value for money as it was one of the cheaper hotels, don't expect 5 star service. Great placement for Grafton St and St Stephen's Green. Stay here if all you want is a good roof over your head for your money.
Lovely hotel!

I really liked the Russell Court. I took the other reviewer's advice and requested a room on an upper floor, which was very helpful over the weekend in keeping the noise level down. It was a beautiful hotel and the staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous. I highly recommend it!
Thought it was great!!!!

I stayed in room 314 on the 29th March 04. I payed £50 for the room and thought it was great. The room was a little small however it was spotless throughtout! The bathroom was excellent also. The breakfast which was included was excellent- a full irish aswell as cereals, fruit juice etc. The staff were'nt overfriendly however they were helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good comfortable hotel which is near to the center of dublin.
Short Break
from A TripAdvisor Member
Russell Court Hotel. Harcourt Street, Dublin City. Ireland. My first time in the republic, my wife's second. The hotel was undergoing refurbishment when we were there 4/04 but it has an air of faded elegance of another age of granduer. Room was comfortable and clean, breakfast fine, good lunchtime bar meals available at very reasonable prices. The staff were polite and efficient however sleep in the front rooms was not peaceful by any measure as this hotel has no double glazing and there is a particularly noisy nightclub just about under the front windows which closes at 3am so dont expect any sleep between 2.30 & 4am due to very noisy patrons and taxis. If you book this reasonably cheap hotel TAKE A REAR ROOM if you want a nights sleep.
Irish short break

We booked separate flights and hotel for 3 nights in Dublin. Aer Lingus were by far the best of the offers, flying from Bristol to Dublin. Russell Court Hotel 3* gave us a half price deal and a surprise suite. Flight was 40 mins, comfortable with a lot of leg room, flight crew courteous. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful in this very large georgian hotel (2 nightclubs/bars/restaurant) not noisy but we were out of season. Downside was the major roadworking outside - new tram system being installed. Dublin itself fantastic for museums/art galleries etc. and of course the Guinness factory with its panoramic view from the top (with a free Guinness!) Over 1,000 pubs in the city - all now non-smoking - what a difference! Shopping ranges from the normal highstreet to exclusive fashion. No matter what time or day the city is bustling with plenty of atmosphere. Plenty of tour buses reasonably priced Excellent airlink from 3 city centre stops to the airport - takes about 20 minutes.
Room 303!!!!
from A TripAdvisor Member
We were slightly worried after reading some of the reviews of the
Russell Court Hotel, but on arrival knew we had made a good choice for
our 5 night stay in Dublin. As advised, when checking in we asked for a
room on the top floor, we were given room 303 and were very pleased to
discover we had a spacious suite with a 4-poster bed. The hotel is in
need of decorating (which they are in the process of completing), but I
would recommend you to stay at the Russell Court before the work is
complete and the price is increased to reflect this. The staff were
very helpful and all in all we had a wonderful stay!!!
Poor treatment by night staff
from ArdMhacha
We stayed at the Russell court at the end of February as a group of 8, we had stayed there twice before and thoroughly enjoyed it, however on thsi occassion we were appalled by the treatment we received by the night staff who had no manners and treated us apallingly, if a couple had been on their own they would have been distracted. The food is good and the rooms are clean but the whole hotel needs a revamp especially the stair carpet and the carpet in the bedrooms. We would not be staying here again.

things to do in dublin
shopping is excellent grafton street was fantastic its got everything you need and more. eating out is really good been to dublin 3 times and every time we have eaten at some great restaurants. the city tour is also a must for first time trips to dublin you go on an open top bus and get a tour guide who takes you to all the local tourist hotspots such as the guiness storehouse and the jameson distellery
When we returned and looked round the room I was pleasantly surprised. Extremely tall ceilings, 2 very comfortable double beds and a large bathroom.
The first night, a Tuesday was no trouble at all, no music and a very nice night's sleep. Breakfast in the morning was...strange. The usual cereal and toast and an Irish cooked breakfast that I certainly would not recommend. I was glad that we had booked these rooms through Hotels.com and not paid the going rate of 20 euros each!
The second night: the noise was unbearable until almost 2am however it wasn't from the club as previous reviews said, it was from the empty bar! When we rang down to see if they woud turn the music off they said that hey were leaving it on until 2 in case people came in???
So, in conclusion, lovely hotel if you don't pay full price and you can put up with the noise that pounds through the floors and makes the doors shake!
