Long waits

My recent stay was disapointing for a 4* hotel. The quality and level of service was not really up to scratch and to top it all a 3 minute check out transaction took over half an hour because the receptionist insisted on dealing with every customer and enquiry on her own! not fun when you've got a plane to catch.
A long walk

I have stayed twice at the Great Southern when visiting Dublin for business. It is very nive hotel with a good bar/restaurant. My only complaint is how you get too it. It is within walking distance, but the walk is not very straightforward or well signposted and the taxi drivers just scoff if you ask them to take you there. Recommendation: they should invest in some signs that would make navigating to it on foot less bothersome.

Great hotel and excellent location
from A TripAdvisor Member
Great hotel located very close to the Dublin airport. The staff on the front desk called my room after I had checked in to ensure everything was to my satisfaction . Nice touch. Paul the bus driver is excellent and very helpful . Had food in the bar which was very good and reasonable. Have stayed in other airport hotels but the Great Southern is without doubt the best and most convenient. I will definitely recommend and use again.
Expensive hotel, zero customer service
from Chester_the_tester
I stayed there 2 weeks, but it was a nightmare. The rooms are clean, big enough, but nothing special. Those things you get even in a 2star hotel. And the "customer service" is really bad and rude. This is a 4 star hotel??? you must be kidding....

i had booked a twin room for myself and my son for one night; when we arrived at hotel we were put in a double room, i contacted reception and was told none available even though i had copy of email stating i had booked one; i did not like their overall attitude. after our breakfast the next morning i checked with the company i had booked the hotel through and they confirmed that there was a twin room booked for us; the hotel then offered us free breakfast!! i wouldn't recommend it to anyone and it definitely isn't a 4 star hotel
Best Airport Hotel around
from A TripAdvisor Member
I frequently stay in the Great Southern Hotel at Dublin Airport. I have used this hotel in the past and have always thought that service and facilities are excellent. It is also very convenient and only 2 minutes from the terminal, there is a courtesy bus that runs between the hotel and the termnal 24 hours a day and the Bar is super as well. I did stay in the Crowne Plaza Hotel and most recently in the Hilton Hotel, both hotels claim to be at the Airport but are really Miles away (if you're stuck in traffic the trip can take up to 45 minutes, the neighbourhood around the Hilton is also not nice).
The one piece of advise to fellow business travellers, use the Great Southern Hotel.

not so great southern
from Elmwoodone
This hotel is sold as a 4 star, however the rooms certainly, dont reflect this.I payd an extra 30 euros for an "executive "room total was 145 euro without breakfast. The room had cobwebs on the window and hairs on the bathroom floor, also cigarette butts on the outside window ledge.I took comfort in the knowledge that they were probably executive spiders that had made the web. Maybe they were attending a conference! However the bed was clean but bathroom was a disgrace also the shower was only luke warm.Who grades these hotels and do they ever return and do spot checks? Definitely not a four star hotel.
Awful hotel
from Loch_Garman_Abu
Stayed here in May for one night. Room was more like a Jurys Inn or Bewleys than a 4 star hotel. Cannot understand how this hotel gets four stars. Service in bar very slow. The window in our room was open when we arrived at about 11 at night. Room was freezing as a result. When I tried to close the window, there was no handle. Complained to the front desk to be told: It's not that cold. They sent someone up but they couldn't fix the window. It was really noisy - taxi rank (overflow) is outside and announcements are made regularly over the tannoy - even at 11, 12 at night. Went back down to complain to manager who apologised. Had to ask him for a discount - he knocked a miserly EUR16 off the EUR115 bill for the night.
Asked for a wake up call for 5 - It did not come - missed flight to London and onward connection.
Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Awful, awful place. Great Southern hotels are not the best chain in Ireland and best avoided in my experience - see reviews for Corrib Great Southern in Galway for example.

Terrible staff behavior
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in this
hotel because our flight was delayed for two days in Dublin .
Staff was unhelpful, treated us terribly, checked
us in last even though we were at the front of the line.
Staff made no effort to make our stay pleasant and
did not even inform us that the airline provided
us a line of credit for room service or
restaurant dining.
Terrible experience, and this is supposedly a four
star hotel!

It could have been better

I stayed at this hotel overnight luckily. I was not impressed. The internet access did not work but you could pay to use it via a keyboard and the television in the room for 7 Euros an hour (!). I opted to forget it but I was disappointed. They told me they would send someone up to my room to help and no one ever showed up.
As for the food - not very good and the "finger food" in the bar was food that you had to pay for and it appeared to have been sitting around for awhile as it was packaged.
It was an expensive place to stay for just one night. However, I guess that is how everything is in Dublin these days.
The bed was comfortable and the room itself was clean. These were its best points.

Excellent Airport Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Our family of 4 recently stayed at The Great Southern Hotel at Dublin Airport. We loved it! On arrival, Paddy the Porter greeted us with a lovely warm smile and the Reception staff were just as welcoming. Our family room was huge, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed a lovely meal that evening in the bar/restaurant served by very friendly staff. The beds are exceptionally comfortable and I loved their lovely big soft pillows. The ensuite was clean and well equipped with toiletries. Breakfast the following morning was delightful with a fantastic choice of fruits, breads, yoghurts and cheeses at the buffet table. My husband chose to order from the varied menu at the table and his Full Irish Breakfast was first class. This was our first time staying at The Great Southern, but will not be our last. We would highly recommend it to anyone.

Take shuttle to Airport The hotel runs a shuttle to/from the Airport (5 mins). You can then take the Aircoach from the Airport to downtown Dublin and back (runs all night). Then take the hotel shuttle back to the hotel.
Cheap quality Dublin Airoprt hotel Days Inn - free bus, a little further away, but great value
public buses when you leave the airport look for the 41 bus stop, you will have to cross a small road . the bus stop is to your left when you come out the door. this bus will take you to city centre via santry , drumcondra, the cost is 2 euro per person and takes about 30 - 40 mins
