Excellent service, wonderful hotel

We had two nights at the Mespil and found the hotel excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room and hotel in general was very clean and tidy. The hotel was nice and quiet, which is not something many Dublin hotels can claim. We didn't get the chance to try out the restaurant but the breakfasts were superb. Can't recommend it highly enough.

A Special Thanks to one of the Mespil's Staff!

I would like to say thanks to all the staff for making my stay a pleasure one. This my first time in Ireland. I want to give a special thanks to one of the staff in the restaurant part. The staff's name is Elaine. My meal was late for a while. She made very sure this was taking care of in a hurry. She went out of her way to make right for the short dilemma. She is really super person. This was the week of May 18th during lunch time.

We stayed on a Friday night for a business event. Had two adjoining rooms and it took one...two...three...four phone calls to have the connecting door opened. Each call the response was "We'll be up in two seconds!" Waited about 20 minutes between each call. The hotel didn't seem particularly busy, but I suppose you can't judge a hotel based on a couple of indifferent staff.

The rooms are basic and clean. Very vanilla...if you're looking for Rocky Road, this hotel won't excite you, but for a traveller who just needs a place to sleep it'll do the trick.

Great location for walking to city centre. (Ballsbridge is a posh area & very safe). Room service and breakfast both got two thumbs down from our group...one ordered a vegetable quesadilla that looked suspiciously like a wet burrito and tasted vaguely of cabbage. Not a tasty treat!

The hotel is very conveniently located in Dublin. I stayed there midweek as a business traveller. I checked in late and was disappointed to find there was no room service after 2130hrs. They checked me into an executive room which was just ok, but didn't have air con or minibar and the shower was very low pressure which added to the disappointment. Overall the room felt reasonably dated.

Reception staff were fine etc.

The Mespil hotel is in a great location, walking distance to the City Centre. The bedrooms are bright, airy and comfortable. The staff were helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was good. It was close to a great variety of restaurants and bars.

We stayed at this hotel after looking at many hotels in Dublin.Quite a few looked possiblities (until we looked at tripadvisor!).We thoroughly enjoyed this hotel.Found the staff very friendly and helpful and,quite frankly, find it hard to believe that this is a 3 star hotel.The meals are pleasant and mid-priced.If you want a quiet room then I would recommend a high floor.If you go for a room at the back then your view will not be great but it probably will be quieter.A lot of it depends whether you want to be slap bang in the middle of the city or you wish a little peace and quiet just out of the city.The taxis are very easy to come by or you can easily jump a bus at the end of the road.Only thing to watch for was punters chatting outside the rooms9you get that in most hotels)It was our first stay in Dublin and we would certainly recommend the Mespil-Oh and thanks tripadvisor!!!

Very pleased with our choice

We have just returned from a two-night weekend stay in the Mespil Hotel in Dublin, and were very pleased with our choice of accommodation. We arrived quite late on Friday evening, but there were still spaces in the adjacent hotel car park, so no worries about parking the car on the street overnight (not that I'd have worried too much anyway - a pretty quiet area). Reception staff were pleasant and efficient. Our room was clean, comfortable and a good size.

The Mespil is in an ideal location for a weekend in Dublin. It is just off Baggot Street, which has several pubs and restaurants, so we ventured no further than that on our first night. Everything we needed on the doorstep. And a choice of cafes for breakfast the next morning as well. And it really is no distance to St Stephen's Green and the top of Grafton Street - a very pleasant 15 minute walk.

Had breakfast in the hotel on the Sunday morning, and it would keep you going all day! Only 9.50 Euros for as much as you can eat from the hot buffet.

This hotel was good, but it lacked little touches that can make the difference to your stay. Ask for a room overlooking the canal - the view is fantastic. This is a good hotel for a reasonable price.

Great hotel - the location is only a 10 minute walk to St. Stephens Green and Grafton street. The hotel staff was amazing - hello to Tom! Rooms were large and clean - highly reccommended.

Good value for money

We found the Mespil to be very reasonably priced. Room was large, clean and comfortable with everything you need. I would stay again.

The bus service in Dublin is excellent, hotel is 10 min from city centre (No 10 Bus). I suggest you buy a "Rambler ticket" at the airport for either 1, 2 or 5 days which also covers the bus from the airport into the city.

We found the mespil to be very reasonably priced. The bus service in Dublin is excellent and you never have to wait long for one. We mostly walked to the town centre to walk off the great breakfast we had eaten. The staff are very friendly. Rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable with everything you need. I would definitely stay again and look forward to returning in the near future.

my girlfriend and i stayed at the mespil hotel for three nights in january 2005. the room was spacious and bright if a little bland, but better than the more fussy, old fashioned hotels of which there are many in tourist cities such as dublin. everything in the room worked, the bathroom was spotless and had plenty of hot water, although the bath itself was rather small. the heating worked rather too well, but again this is better than having to come back after a day out in january to a cold room. the staff were very heplful without being overbearing, although the one criticism we had was that the bar is soulless and we were rather abruptly moved out after last orders at 11.30. however the hotel is well located and there are a number of good neighborhood bars and restaurants around the corner on baggot street. the price was very reasonable, although breakfast is not included as standard.
we would stay there again as the hotel was comfortable and in a great location. it may not be particularly glamourous but for the money is more than adaquate.

bus pass if you get a chance to go to Dublin get a rambler pass from the toursit centre which is located in the middle of O'Connell street, they are much cheaper...for example 1day family pass costs 8.50euro which allows 2 adults and 4 children to hope on and off as much as you want in 24hours, i used it for just myself and wife,

The Guinness factory The Guinness factory is a must see! There are many busess that go to the factory including tour busess but it also it is a short walk from the medieval town. Even if you dont like guinness, the factory is very interesting and an enjoyable experience. the tour busess are 15 euros but are an excellent way to see the city. Also by presenting your bus ticket at many attractions you will recieve discount.
