Great hotel, rooms very clean. The staff very friendly, massive bar. A great breakfast and the best scrambled eggs in a hotel ever. Nice and easy on the Dart.

I thought the staff at the hotel where very friendly. However the people at the bar where very rude and not very accomodating or friendly to the guest.

The hotel is pretty average and the staff where kind at the reception desk.

CLEAN FRIENDLY MODERN HOTEL

Only stayed 2 nights but had no problems, very good buffet breakfast. An easy 20 minute walk into the centre of Dublin. Good restaurants nearby. Would have no hesitation in recommending it

We had a good stay here. Easy to get to from the airport (Ballsbridge line of the Aircoach bus to Schoolhouse stop). The room was pretty nice/new, and the staff went out of their way to help us a couple of times. The location is a little out of the way, but it didn't really bother us...since we took the bus to the center of town and stayed there all day.

No disappointments at the Grand Canal Hotel

We stayed here for three nights in June. We were happy with our stay on many levels. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were well appointed and clean. There is a pub next door and a restaurant in the hotel and both had good food and good service. The hotel is in a quiet location and still within walking distance of many points of interest.

Some of the desk staff seemed inexperienced and hurried.

There's ample space for suitcase and truly ample counter space in the bathroom. No hand held shower and at least in my room extremely difficult to make the shower work independently from the lower faucet. Towels smelled like burnt food.

No mini fridge. The staff will store something for you in their kitchen refrigerator but throws away after 24 hours which they didn't tell me. It's close to a DART station.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Grand Canal Hotel. Had no problems at all with our reservation. Having arrived very early in the morning we were well looked after and the hotel staff were very friendly and efficient throught our stay.

The pub attached to the hotel was very good. Had a great stay in Dublin and will be returning again soon.

We stayed one night last weekend as we were at a match in Landsdowne Road. We got a good rate of €99 for a twin room (breakfast not included) and I have to say we couldn't find a fault. Good location, nice new bright hotel, very clean, friendly & courteous staff at reception. Rooms not huge but adequate - bigger rooms with a decent view available at a price. The Mceniffs have a long history in the hotel business all over Ireland and it shows. Didn't eat there so can't comment on the food. Kitty O'Sheas bar is part of the hotel which also serves food but be sure not to get a room directly over the bar !!

Quality new hotel

I would definitely recommend the Grand Canal hotel if you're going to stay in Dublin. Coming from the airport its located just around the corner from the Schoolhouse stop on the Aircoach or an equally short walk from the Canal Dart stop.
The front desk as staffed by new and enthusiastic staff and the lobby was large and comfortable. Our room was located on the 5th floor and was located off the street and quiet. The bathroom and shower were excellent and the room was a decent size with the expected tea/coffee making facilities and dozen or so TV channels. We stayed for three nights and the room was cleaned and made up to a high standard each day.
Did not have breakfast as it was overpriced, but the attached pub served good pub grub and wasn't too expensive. If you're looking for a proper Dublin pub head down the road to Slatterys or a bit further down to Ballsbridge and go to Paddy Cullens or Bellamys, but for a convenient meal on you way out or in its a good option.
The hotel is a quick 2/3 stop Dart ride or 5 minute bus ride to the town centre or you can walk it in 15-25 minutes.

Overbooked and Kicked Out

My husband and I recently went on a driving trip of Ireland and were booked to stay at the McEniff Grand Canal in Dublin for two nights. After spending the whole day driving and sightseeing we were happy to arrive at the hotel expecting to get a good rest. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told that a bus group had come in and had extra people on it and insisted that everyone had to stay at the Grand Canal and we were out of our pre-payed and confirmed room. They referred us onto the Camden Court Hotel where they had already booked us a new room. I would not recommend either hotel. Read my review on Camden Court if you wish to know why I don't recommend it either.

Wonderful Staff!

I highly recommend this hotel. The room was good size, compared to European standards, and very clean which impressed me. The television was equipped w/pay movies, internet, and games for the kids (Ping Pong, Scramble, checkers). There's also a computer downstairs, but for the price, it's cheaper to use it from your room. Even though our room was by the street, it was nice and quiet. The shower was always nice and hot. The hotel even loaned out converters (but make sure you bring it back other wise they'll charge you). The staff was very accomodating and made me feel like I was in a 5-star hotel. Whatever our interest, the front desk would make any arrangements for us. Parking is free for hotel guests which is a nice little bonus. Kitty O'Shea's Restaurant had good pub food. Since we felt like the 12,50 euro breakfast was a bit high, we would grab pastries as the local convenience store which was open 24 hours. This store (Spar) also sold hot food & had a deli section. One could even purchase scrambled eggs and hash browns there. It also had an ATM. It was about a 15 minute walk (max) to Trinity College. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Eight of us (mixed sex) booked and paid for four non-smoking, twin rooms in this hotel two months ago. When we arrived, nearly all of the rooms turned out to be doubles, and some stank of smoke.

The hotel managed to sort us out, in one way or another. Some of us were swapped into twin rooms, but others had a fairly uncomfortable single
bed wheeled into their double room.

Not the best start, and I'd strongly advise all visitors to check their booking directly with the hotel just before getting to Dublin to make sure you get what you paid for.

Another tip: If there are a group of you coming here, taxis will charge 5-euros per head for a trip from the airport to the hotel. This would've worked out cheaper and a lot faster than the Aircoach.

Having said that, the aircoach was fine, just make sure you get off at the Schoolhouse Hotel stop... McEniff is 5 minutes walk from there.

Other than that, a fairly nice, new, clean hotel with a great bar downstairs. There are a few shops, bars and restaurants about 10 minutes walk away, but the main shopping centres and Temple Bar take 30 minutes to walk to, or a 10-euro taxi.


All in all, a pleasant hotel, quite a treck from the centre, and in a quiet neighbourhood. If that's what you're looking for, you won't be disappointed.

Top Local Tips for Dublin

Dublin Signs We had a hard time getting around due to the lack of good signs. Most of the signs do not give the street name, but rather the building or place that the road takes you to. So, if you are trying to get to a certain road it makes it a little hard.

Buses & Breakfast ! Do the Aircoach...worth the 12 e return for comfy leather seated coach...not a double decker ! If you leave your hotel before breakfast,ask for one to go !

great food drink and warm hospitality Try The Duke pub ( just off the Grafton street) for lovely pub food at reasonable prices. The staff cant do enough for you they are so friendly. We had irish stew and gammon sandwiches that were delicious. On the other hand Bewleys looked fabulous and we couldnt wait to try their breakfast however we were bitterly dissappointed the vegetarian breakfast was a total rip off. I was given tea with no milk and waited for about fifteen minutes before anyone could be bothered to bring any. My partner had stomach pains for the rest of the day. The service is terrible and i wouldnt go back even if it were free.
